I picked up a used Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14x44 for a good price a while back . It looked brand new. Sent it to Zeiss to have an elevation target turret installed. Got it back and everything looked good to go. Turret had nice positive sharp clicks.

Put it in the safe and kinda forgot about it for a while.

Got it out the other day , and put it in a Larue 104 on an ar15.
Dope card wasn't even close. What the heck ?

Box tested it at 100 yds. While it is very repeatable it seems the windage clicks are 1/4" while the elevation turret is 1/8 ".

Anyone care to explain this to me ?

Maybe maybe not. I remember when I fist tested the tracking on my Zeiss conquest 4.5-14x it appeared to be off on one of the turrets. The problem turned out to be that the scope really doesn't have very much travel in the adjustments and it was past the limit in the direction that appeared to be adjusting to fine (ie. less than 1/4".) The adjustment still turns and clicks but the erector tube inside is resting against the main tube and not the adjustment screw. My guess is that you have this on a 20moa rail and that you are out of travel in your elevation control. In my case I had it on a rifle that had a very crooked barrel installed and so the scope was pretty off center at zero. I would try your box test in the other direction, ie. adjust up instead of down from rifle zero and see if that changes your result. You might also try a smaller box.

Re: help with zeiss conquest

Alright I cheated. I didn't run the full box test. Here is what I did.

Rifle was zeroed at 100.
Shot a 3 shot group
24 clicks up and shot 3 rds. group moved up 3" from poa(point of aim)
24 clicks up and shot 3 rds. group now 6" above poa
16 clicks right and shot 3 rds. group moved right 4" of poa
32 clicks left and shot 3 rds. group 4" left of poa
16 clicks right + 48 clicks down shot 3 rds and was back at poa.

Elevation appears to be 1/8" clicks to me.

Re: help with zeiss conquest

The exact results of your quasi box test and the fact that it appears that Zeiss, at least at one time, made 1/8" target turrets in this model suggests that you were retrofited with those 1/8" clicks. Probably not exactly what you wanted. Don't let go of the 4.5-14x44 though. It has been discontinued. The whole U.S. assembled Conquest line is in the process of being phased out and this was one of the models chopped this year. I'm not real happy about it. Glad I didn't sell mine a while back.
