I have a Springfield loaded and a Springfield range officer. I originally planned to send at least one back to the Springfield custom shop. I am now thinking I might sell or trade them both back in and get a nicer pistol. I am looking at the TRP but what else should I consider? I would really like to have a 9mm but just tell me my options. Front strap checkering is a must.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

just send one in to the custom shop and have em go crazy. You will end up with a nicer pistol then a TRP

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Depending on what you're talking about spending a nighthawk or wilson combat may not be far off. Just a thought.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

sky is the limit on 1911s. Easy to spend upwards of 8,000 on a rogers or chen.

There are better forums for what you are after. 1911addicts and 1911forum.
Plenty of manufactures out there with 9mm 1911 that run flawless.

The platform is really the harley of pistols. Customize as you see fit.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Send the Loaded back to Springfield and have them perform a reliability package first with an extra tuned extractor, and whatever else you want. The Custom Shop has reasionable prices and will get it done quickly for you. Keep your invoice, as it will increase the value of the firearm. Post up some pic's when your all done!

Re: Looking For A New 1911

If you download the order form on Ed Brown's website, you'll see he lists prices for almost every common 1911 customization. It's pretty easy to pick a model, and then add what extras you want for a final price without having to call around for a quote.

Last I checked, he was the only 1911 maker that machined every component in-house, with the exception of the grips, trigger, and sights. Unless you're going after a $5k+ custom package, I'd recommend adding up options on his website, and at least using this as a point of reference.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Its all a about budget and goals. What are you looking for and willing to spend?

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Springer Custom Shop like Big Joe said for one of your units already.

Otherwise, TRPs are nice. IN that range you're looking at Les Baer Premier II or maybe a Thunder Ranch. His Boss doesn't look bad either.

Dan Wesson's maybe?

Or, if you are lucky (IMO), you could find a Yo Bo 1* somewhere.

Plenty like STI's and used Wilson Combats,

Naturally, be nice to grab a new Colt M45.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

I have a SS TRP that I am very pleased with. As I recall the Custom Shop can almost turn a TRP into a Proffesional.

I also just picked up a S&W Pro Series Subcompact and I was very surprised at the quality, fit and finish.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

I absolutely love my TRP. It's awesome looking has the rail for a flashlight at night by my dresser. Shoots awesome always goes bang. Super smooth. Ive never shot a Wilson, but I like this gun so much I don't even care too.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

It is really hard to beat what ed brown offers. I have several of his guns and they are really really good.

Cool stuff like custom serial numbers is really nice. Both my kids have an EE with thier initials and birth year as the sn.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Interesting...It looks like SA tripped things up a litter between the TRP and the earlier TRP Operator.

Early SS TRP

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Trp's are about as good as it gets in the price range that they are in. John Harrison might be someone you might want to think about if you decide to send it to someone.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

TRP's are an amazing value for the money. I have a TRP, and Pro. Browns, NHC....TRP is good stuff.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Les Baer pm2 or the trs or the list goes on. Or send yours to alchemy and let them do the work.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Look at Sig Sauer's line of 1911. They have several models available with great features. What you pay for the Sig vs high end model, it leaves you with extra cash for other gear or gun. I bought into the hype with my first 1911 with a Les Baer model. I would put my Sigs up against the LB any day and still have spare $$$$ left.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Thanks for the replies. I have been doing some research after looking how much it would cost to send the Springfield back in. I need a short trigger because of my hand size so if I bought a TRP I would still have to send it somewhere. I cannot carry a full size 1911. The grip is just to noticeable even with a light coat. If I sent one of my Springfield's back, I would have a nice gun but it would be for range use only. I am now looking at a Wilson Combat compact. I know it is more expensive but not that much more that getting what I want done and it is a Wilson if I ever wanted to sell it. I would like to have a 9mm still. I have plenty of time to think about it because I will not be doing anything for several months. Any advice would be helpful.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

I would seriously spend some time on STI's website. Most of their guns come in 9mm. IMHO, you'd be hard pressed to beat them for the money. They have some smaller models that would be perfect for you.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

I picked up a Sig Scorpion on Tuesday. Haven't shot it yet, but it seems like a well made piece. This is my first 1911. All I've had so far are Glocks so this is my first steel gun. Planning on taking it to my range this weekend.

Re: Looking For A New 1911

Where in Alabama are you from? The reason I ask is because I have a full custom 1911 10mm built by a friend here in south AL. His work is superb and we could link up sometime if you want to check out his work. He can give you more accuracy and features for your money vs a "name" custom. PM if interested.
