So, why Berger VLDs when we have the Hybrids?

The hybrids are supposed to be easier to find the right seating depth and they have a higher BC (albeit a small margin) when compared to the VLDs. Why would anyone keep using the VLDs other than it would require working up that "perfect load" again...?

Hybrids are longer if I recall and can lead to mag length issues, especially if you have to chase the lands. For the single loaders, it's a non issue

But Hybirds are extremely jump tolerant compared to VLDs, I know somebody who jumps them .050 or more.

I jump my Hybrids by abou .06, they shoot just fine. I personally go to the hybrids first for this very reason, I can get them to fit in the mag and don't have to worry about chasing the lands.

Am I wrong in guessing you guys had better luck with the 130 over the 140? This was my experience with my 1 in 8 twist.

It would be awesome if they come out with a 130 hunting hybrid... provided its between the .550ish g1 130vld and the 140's

I have vld's in 130, 140 and the 140 hybrid for testing. The 130 is shooting great and jumping about .04, I have yet to find the jump for the 140 and seating to the lands is an issue with the mag size. The 140 hybrid while shooting well, it isn’t shooting as tight as the 130. Granted, I not done testing any of these three but they all have their uses.

I shoot the 130 VLD's in a 6.5x47L with an 8.5 twist, and I get good accuracy and decent speed without any pressure. I've never tried 140's.
I'd try 130 Hybrids just because I've had good results with 6mm 105 Hybrids.

I had to go 120 off with the 140 to get close to accuracy. I go 20 off with the 130 and I am finished.

go with hybrids if you don't need VLD for another reasons such as weight, hunting, etc... they are much easier to load since they are less seating length sensitive.

The answer is simple, it is a damn good bullet, and has been from the start.
I'm a hybrid fan, but have a freind who won't veer from the vld.

For those that say you have to chase the lands with the VLD's, I declare shenanigans! I found my best accuracy at .065 jump in my 300RUM and that gets them back into mag length. I was ordering a wyatts mag box until I found that spot. Try jumping them a bit and see what happens, you might be surprised.

From what I've read, there's basically two places VLDs USUALLY work (there are exceptions)...jumped in the 0.060-0.065 or jammed 0.005-0.015.

I switched to hybrids. I got tired of chasing lands in my rifle that didn't shoot well with a jump. My rifle shot better groups at 100 yards with 140 Hybrids, shot better groups at 600, and had a slightly better trajectory. It was win-win. When I got a new Bartlein on my Stiller A/W cut, I just used the leftover Hybrids despite having more mag space than my old 700/AICS. I found no matter where I seated them, they shot great. That lead me to loading to mag-length with A/W mags and upping the charge for a little more speed and wonderful accuracy. I believe I'm actually .008" off at the moment. It is the most accurate combination I've ever had.

You can make your own. Just take it out of a yellow box, put it in an orange box, and when you take it out of the orange box, it will now be a hunting bullet.

Vld's 100 per pack. 215 230 hybrids 50 per pack. I personally never had the hybrids outshoot the vlds. But....I load the vlds almost exclusively.
Also why chase the lands when you can spend 35$ and get a oal gauge and modified case which will tell you exactly where you are

There are multiple bullets available because not every bullet shoots in every gun. I tried to get 155 Scenars to work in my gun and they just wouldn't shoot. Jumped, jammed, every legitimate powder choice from Varget to 8280xbr to 4895. Wouldn't work.

I know people who are shooting the same bullet with the same barrel cut with the same reamer who are shooting this bullet with no problems.

I think having different options available is a recognition that not all bullets will shoot in the same gun.

FWIW, I was getting very good results shooting 155 Berger Hybrids jumped .110"! Now that's a lot of jump! But just because they worked in my barrel doesn't mean they are going to work in yours.
