Rifle Scopes Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Those look awesome Scott! I can't wait to try them. I wish I had a dollar (or better yet, my money back) for every POS BC scope cover I've broken in the last four years.

Awesome, order placed. Looks like they should be a lot better than the old ones. Can't be any worse...

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Scott perfect timimg. About 30 degrees today on the range. Had another BRAND NEW bc cap break on me. Order placed.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

I like the old ones. Why are these better? It looks like there is no latch that could break, though, not that I had that problem.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Thicker, rubbery material, the entire cap is molded from one-piece, a simpler design.

We have the old ones too, but they are the source of some complaints the last couple of years.

The jury is still out on the new ones, but early reviews are promising

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Got the new BC caps on this morning. Construction seems much better than the old design. All one piece with rubber tabs to hold the cap on when flipped open. There's even a small tab to lock the outer cap back and out of the way when open. The rubber is more pliable and easier to get on and off of the scope also.

For Nightforce users like myself the eyepiece cap works better with magnification adjustments. I'm running 3-15 x and I found a sweet spot that pretty much keeps the cap out of the way with all magnifications.

I haven't had them out in the field yet but so far they seem to be a much better design.

Thanks again Scott.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

While we're already at it, how about for a Bushnell HDMR and SWFA 5-20x50? I think the eyepieces are too big to fit any of the current lineup, but I'm not sure.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

The 43-44 obj should fit NXS 50mm, HDMR, and Razor no problem....

Eyepiece: Waiting on the 19-20 version of the eyepiece, which would fit all of the above. The 16-18 version should be a tad too small, but if anyone has experience otherwise I'd like to hear it.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

If you send me one, I'd be more than happy to test it.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Got two of these ocular caps from Scott and they seem very sturdy and well made. Have not used them yet, since my lightweight BC caps are still going strong. Will use these if those break. Really great new product and fast shipping.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

If anyone puts these on a SS 1-6, 3-9, or 5-20, I'd appreciate a size confirmation and field report as to how these work and stand up.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Looks like BC updated their website to list more sizes. Any idea when these will be available for purchase?

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

These may not be the do-all, end-all we had hoped. Damn.

It was about 18 degrees with the wind, which was blowing between 12-20+. When it came time for me to shoot I got behind my rifle popped open the objective cap and one of the rubber tabs that holds the cap cracked completely through while the other broke nearly all the way through. Seems that these caps don't like cold weather either. I haven't called BC yet but just wanted everyone who had their hopes up, like I did to, know.

Seriously... this is 2013. How hard is it to design and market a scope cap that won't break? We pay thousands for our scopes, do these mfgs. think that we will only pay $15 to protect them, so they just churn out cheap crap? The funny thing is, I went back to the cheapo scope cap that comes in the box with the Razor 5-20 and that thing has never broken and opens and closes as needed.

Rant OFF

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

I was looking at outfitting 4 scopes......... at $13 - $15 per cap..... $26 - $30 per scope x 4 scopes...... damn I'm glad I waited.

Neoprene may not look as clean and you have to either remove the cover completely or in the case of the Alaska scope shield let it hang by it's sewn in loop if you go that route. However, none of my neoprene covers have ever failed due to low temps, getting bumped, or falling over. I guess having to take off a cover and stuff it in my pocket or gun case til I'm done shooting isn't so bad after all.... while not as handy, it did and continues to save me over $100.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

I bought them for two of my scopes and am not real pleased with them. They don't close very easily dues to the being soft rubber and flexing too much and pop open easily for the same reason, especially the smaller eyepiece covers. After buying these I would say I prefer the old style BC cover over the new "tactical" style.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Well, now I know why the orders for these has slowed a bit...lol

I agree, this shouldn't be too hard.

I have a few 20eye caps made years ago that are tough as nails. Thick material and great build quality. I bought them in bulk.

The Aluminas work awesome and are the way to go for any Lupy scope that will take them.

Back to the drawing board??

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

I don't know Scott maybe others are having better luck with them then I did. Maybe its just how they fit on the scopes I tried them on both IOR's BTW. After a day at the range with one and a coyote hunt with the other I took them off. Like I said they were both difficult to close and popped open with a slight bump. The eyepiece cover wouldn't hardly stay closed on my 2.5-10x42 but I think it is a little big, think I used a 14 regular BC before and ordered the 16-18 tactical for it. It fit on and didn't fall off just wouldn't stay closed.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

You know I don't normally recommend/sell things I haven't personally examined myself and would buy myself. But in this case a customer pointed out a review here on the Hide (or a Hide member, can't remember) that said these were the answer. I'd like to find that review.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Scott that may have been me (see original post below).

I did'nt have the popping open problem others had. Only way I found that the rubber was to brittle was while shooting in severe cold when the two tabs snapped.

Sorry if I mislead anyone but I did say that I had not used them in the field at the time of my post.

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

Do you have these available for the Vortex 1-6? I need caps for mine, thanks!

Re: Butler Creek Tactical scope covers now in stock!

I ordered two of these. They do have the tendency to pop open if I seat them in all the way. If I leave a bit of slack, they close properly. Maybe the outer diameter of my HDMR and SS is a bit wide.

For the eyepiece side, I never had any problems with the traditional push button covers and I think they work great.

I think the best combo so far is the tactical front with regular back.

But yeah, the Leupold alumina covers are freaking awesome. The best I've ever used. I wish someone will do some custom machined covers for different scopes on order. Given how much my scopes cost, I wouldn't mind shelling out a hundred or few bucks for something like the Leupolds'.

No, it wasn't you. It was a review I read before I even ordered them. Somebody who does this type of thing in an effort to be an industry leader. I'll find it.
