Range Report Question on Litz Bullet Measurements

What is "R". I see it on the nose with an arrow pointing to a specific spot on the bullet dimensions. Example, the SMK 190 is R2.156

For the example of the .30 cal bullet with a 2.156R dimension; that means the circular arc that makes up the ogive is 2.156*.308 = .664 inches.

Ogive radii are given in calibers so you can compare designs across different calibers.

For example, a .22 caliber bullet having an ogive radius of 3 calibers is the same ogive design as a .30 caliber ogive with a radius of 3 calibers. But if you listed the ogive radius in inches, it would be .672" for the 22 cal vs. .924" for the 30 cal.

Thanks, my time on the forums has been limited lately due to many projects but I enjoy dropping in on the hide once in a while to see what's going on.

I see McCoy has the center of gravity as 1.81 caliber so that would be .557" base.

See... this is what I love about this site and shooting in general. You ask one question on here, and you have the guy who came up with it get back to you immediately. That kind of Q&A is rarely present anywhere these days.
