I was at the range today and my trigger locked up when i closed the bolt. I know that if the trigger is set too light and you jam the bolt closed the accutrigger will lock the sear. However it did not matter how hard or soft i closed the bolt the trigger still locked up. The only way i could get it to function correctly was to push the bolt forward pretty hard (hard enough i needed my support hand to push the rifle back into my shoulder.) It made no difference weather a round was in the chamber or not. I have run about 300 rounds through this rifle and never had a problem. any ideas?

Re: savage 10 trigger locking up

You need to turn up the trigger pull weight. There is not enough spring force as is for the sear to catch in the trigger notch.

If you're handy, you can enlarge the notch a bit so its "catchier", but beware of introducing creep.

Re: savage 10 trigger locking up

Expect the Sear to wear and loosen a bit after some use. As recommended before, your best course of action is to increase the trigger pull weight to compensate.

Re: savage 10 trigger locking up

It's set light. Not bottomed out, but lighter than my rems. Prob 2-2.5 lb. I will try to adjust it when I get home this eve and see if that does the trick.

Re: savage 10 trigger locking up

Had the same problem with mine and had to adjust trigger pull weight up as others are suggesting. This definitely improved things but didn't totally solve my lock-up problem. Wound up switching out the accu-trigger and installing a Rifle Basix trigger ... problem solved!

Re: savage 10 trigger locking up

Gee, and yet there are still so many accutrigger lovers... First thing to ever get replaced on all 5 savages that I've owned has been that pos trigger. If it can't set reliably 99.99% of the time its not a reliable trigger, period.
Every SSS comp trigger i have installed in their place have been 100% reliable and the trigger breaks like glass at 1 pound.
