I have a chance to buy a .221 Fireball, Rem 700 Light Varmit stainless..

Any pluses/minuses on the cartridge? Have you used it on coyotes?

Looking for a low recoil mid-range varmit rifle. I googled it and looked it up on the forum but wanted to reach out and get some thoughts on the round from someone who's actually used it???

Thanks in advance...

Re: .221 Fireball Questions

If you go over to predatormasters and ask the question you should get a good number of answers. I have never used one, but a lot of people seem to like it.

Re: .221 Fireball Questions

I have a couple. I run 40g Vmax with Lil Gun at 3600 from a 24" barrel. Deadly on squirrels. Shot and crippled a couple yotes. On Yotes, I'd shoot 40BT or move up to the 50g slugs. The 40g Vmax comes unglued a little to easy.

On the plus size, its a powder miser, with light recoil and reduced sound over the .223.

Re: .221 Fireball Questions

I've owned two over the years, a 221FB LVSF, and a Rem 700 Classic. Have since sold them both. Neat cartridge. Low recoil,
Very accurate,LilGun shines,Light bullets shine,
But i can do every thing the 221 will do with my 223 LVSF, if not Better.

Except find ammunition. Store isles full of 222 and 221, but nothing in 223. It will pass, I know, but still frustrating...

Re: .221 Fireball Questions

Fantastic little cartridge, I just had a new one built a few weeks ago. I prefer to use 50 gr bullets in them though. Excellent on squirrels, coyotes, and even pigs. Accurate, excellent barrel life, and has just enough power to get the job done out to 250 yards or so.

Re: .221 Fireball Questions

I have one my grandpa had made on a small Sako action. I shot a lot of prairie dogs with it but no coyotes. I used 40 grain plastic tipped bullets (V-max, Blitz Kings, Ballistic Tips-no real preference) over Reloder 7.

Re: .221 Fireball Questions

I appreciate the info guys. I've only fired a couple of rounds through it to confirm zero but it's everything you guys described... ***Very light recoil. It's the smallest centerfire rifle cartridge I've ever shot.

The FoxPro shipped yesterday and hope to try some calling mid-week.
