Alright the last little while ive been debating on a new rifle and ive decided onastevens 200 in 243. This will be my first savage rifle a few questions I have though is who to getto do a barrel and ideals on a stock. Also rings and base I already have a leoupold vx3 6.5 x 20 scope its a 30mm tube also. I was debating on a 6.5mm caliber but im just really pulled towards the 243 seeing as 1000 yards is the absolute most I ever get to shoot. 1600 dollars is the absolute most I want to spend rifle included. And I know the 12 lrp is a good rifle but I really want something custom. so please any help is apreciated. Thanks guys.

I had mcgowen barrel screw mine on, unless you are going to do a bunch, it is safer and more cost effective in the end to have a pro screw it together. it's not hard, don't get me wrong, more why bother unless it is something you do a lot of and have the vice, wrench, and gauges, and some one to show you how to do it the right way. More about not paying the stupid tax with a mangled action.
Mine should be here later this week or early next. I also had it bead blasted, so alumahyde will be the next step. Cheap simple and I can just touch up any problems down the road. 28" 1-8 7mm rm fluted varmint contour with the poster RWS's brake will sit in a choate tactical, ss 5-20hd, with standard bottom metal.
Be my extended long range rig. Thinking a 7x57 will be next on another savage long action and an xlr chassis.

When it is all said and done, XLR may be the most cost effective as you can bolt it in yourself. Aics and Manners are other great options.
Think of it as 300-400 for stock, 200 for bedding, and bottom metal 200+. So $700 or $800 is just what it costs.

I reload all my own stuff I like to stay about .010 to .020 off the lands

Will tel you in a few weeks on the barrel, but most reviews are positive since Dan took over and moved it west. I do not predict any trouble, hoping for 1/2 Moa give or take my abilities. That said, I chose him for the 1-8 twists for the 180 plus pills in 7mm.

Yea I agree and it is winter so cant really do much shooting right now anyways

First: get the rifle (~400). Sell the factory barrel and stock to subsidize everything else (probably get $50-80 for both).
Second: buy a Manners EH1 currently in the group buy (~$500).
Third: call Jeff @ CDI and get his DBM and AICS magazine (~$300)
Forth: call Jim Briggs @ Northland Shooters Supply and get a Criterion barrel from him, along with his recoil lug, barrel nut wrench and barrel blocks. (~$400)
Criterion's 6mm twists don't go faster than 1:8, but that should work well with Berger's 105gr Hybrid.
