Looking for any and all info you guy's may have regarding this rifle/company such as how do you like it, groups shot. Looking at .223 or .308 not sure just yet just need a feel good feeling or whatever info from you, or reviews. Thanks Manny

Re: Kimber 8400

I love mine in .270 WSM, it is my go to hunting rifle. I get .65 MOA groups with reloads. Keep in mind it is a mountain rifle with a very thin barrel, it is not designed for bench shooting. I would not recommend getting one for regular shooting at the range. However, they make great light weight hunting rifles.

Re: Kimber 8400

I have a Kimber in 30-06 which I use for hunting, it shoots consistent 1 MOA with factor loads. With the kevlar/carbon fiber stock it is a very light weight rifle. The mauser action is extremely smooth.

Re: Kimber 8400

I just purchased a Kimber Montana in 223. I have fired approximately 40rds and have to say, I like it. The fit and finish are great and it is a very light and handy rifle.

I knew not to expect the greatest accuracy from this rifle and I was happy with the groups I was getting, about 1 1/2 inch average at 100 yards using Factory Speer Gold Dot Ammo. I am sure with the right load the groups would tighten up.

Re: Kimber 8400

I have located a Police Tactical .308 24" barrel for $1400.00 but would really like the tactical with A5 stock, anybody know where I can find one of these available? My other option is the Tikka sporter any input with this one? Thanks

Re: Kimber 8400

Well, they have all the bells and whistles, I know they are pricey. I will use for possible f-class shooting, target, maybe hunting predators (depending on caliber I get).223 or .308. I sold my FN PBR in .308, the chamber was real rough, sent back and was the same as when I sent it in. Anyway, fill me in. My other choice is the Tikka sporter.

Re: Kimber 8400

Sako TRG

F-Class or FTR?

the .308 (associated bolt) will allow more options over time
.260
6.5 Creed
6.5x47
.243
6 Creed
etc

You really need to define how you will be using it and what distance you will be reaching out to

Re: Kimber 8400

F/TR. All the ranges around here 600 or less mostly less. I do want to stick with .223 or .308, I have all the stuff for these two calibers.

Re: Kimber 8400

All the stuff? If you are using bushing dies all you need is a different bushing and you are gtg for body/neck sizing Remington 260. Bullet seater micrometer is only another $30. Brass, bullets, and powder are all consumable items so they will soon be a non issue.
The 308 isn't a terrible round, but nearly all the 6.5mm cartridges are far superior (of course this is a topic of debate all its own). So you'd be far better off with the 308 so you can upgrade (yes I said upgrade) to a better chambering later. The 223 is accurate, but pretty much useless. I wouldn't bother, and i speak from experience - had a savage fcp-k in 223. Accurate for paper punching to like 200 rounds but that was it. Tried selling it but nobody was interested. So I'm keeping it,changed the bolt face to the .4xx size, and r barreling to Remington 260.
I do love the Mauser action on the kimber. If you can find a good one in 308 jump on it.

Re: Kimber 8400

I have found NIB Kimber Police Tactical $1400.00, this is very hard for me to determine which is best for me. I will stick with the .308 I think. The Tikka if I have not mentioned is the sporter model with the orange/gray colored stock (which I will have painted)at a later date if purchased. They have them in stock at Euro-optics.

Re: Kimber 8400

Good deal. Let us know how it shoots! 308 is a good round. But start reading on 6.5 and 6mm offerings. You will soon be upgrading...

Wow is all I have to say about my 8400 police tactical in .308. This rifle is a shooter. I have been steadily getting 1/2" moa at 100 yards using 168 grains a-max, 44 grains varget cci primers. No issues other then my scope rings needed lapping. They are Burris extreme tactical and were coming lose, bought a Wheeler kit from Midway and now good to go. The kit btw is well worth the money. If anyone has any specific questions just fire away. Manny

Just purchased a Kimber Police Tactical off of Gunbroker for 1268.00 Cant wait to get back and get my hands on it, considering that I am deployed right now.

Even after all of the negative comments I read about the advanced tactical I picked one up in late April for a deal and love it. I did rebed it cause I didn't like the factory job but other than that its flawless. Everybody gives these rifles a bad rap but I dont think many have actually tried one.

I have to say that I love my Kimber Montana 243. I too read all the reviews about them not shooting but I chanced it and I'm glad I did. The action is as smooth as any other claw type extractor action, and the trigger breaks crisp at 3lbs right out of the box. It shoots sub MOA with several Hornady factory loads, as well as federal fusion. I've taken it all the way out to 600 yards and I wouldn't have any problem taking a shot on game at that distance. Best of all with a blackhawk mountain sling, and Swarovski Z3 it weighs right on 6lbs. I can carry it all day without issue and it makes a great walking varmint rifle as well as deer rifle. I'll buy one in 223 one day but I'm very gun poor right now.

I would certainly beware about Kimber putting out some lemons but it wouldn't keep me from buying one if it's what I'm looking for. Remington and Savage put out way more lemons and people buy them every day.

Someone asked what glass I installed - Vortex 6.5x25x50mm mrad reticle...very nice.......scope and great warranty.

I have a montana in 25-06 they claim to be free floated. ha ha ha had to remove a rediculus amount of stock material it was shooting 1.5-1.75" now it will do about .75-1.00 and that is after 5 differnt bullets and six differnt kinds of powders and 2 kinds of primers. I dont think i should have had to do that much screwing around with it to get it to shoot after paying as much as I did for it.

Most Montana's need a bit of tweaking with the mag box and bedding the recoil lug. They bed the stock with a slave action so it's not always perfectly aligned with the action they end up bolting the stock to.
You'd have to buy a 700 Mountain Rifle and then buy a McMillan Edge filled stock to even get close to what Kimber puts out in a lightweight, SS Kevlar stocked rifle.
