Re: Wild Apache helicopter crash

They actually aren't that bad to crash in. I've seen a crash that mirrored this one.

Perfect helo to keep you alive long enough for the court martial.

Re: Wild Apache helicopter crash

I couldn't count how many times they played that video in the performance planning class in flight school. Rotor droop is bad.

Re: Wild Apache helicopter crash

Saw that the day it happened. Gunner Broken leg Pilot walked away and will never fly again.
It first hit literally on top of some guys unhooking a sling load on the HLZ they are lucky it didn't hit someone with a rotor. Luckily that area had some of the local militia that kept the TB away. We got to Pull secuity on that fucker all night and it was -20 without windchill, -35 with windchill. Probably the coldest I have ever been in my life.
It was on here not too long after it happened.

I've seen several plane crashes in my day. Wheel up landings, plane cartwheeling after a stall, etc. The worst was a guy flying a Pitts S-1 who had a hard landing and bent the tail wheel at a 90 degree angle from the fuselage. He went around after the first hard landing, came in again, and when the tail wheel hit the ground it whipped him to the side, he hit power and narrowly missed a plane on the taxiway adjacent to the runway, he got in GROUND EFFECT over the hangers on the side of the airfield. I had the scanner on and listened to him being freaked out and his wingman trying to calm him down. They went to another airport with fire/rescue where he put it down put ripped the wings off the plane. I heard it all.
