Check out Drudge this a.m. Story about DHS ordering another 22 million rds. of .40 cal and 9mm, mostly JHP.

Re: DHS orders more ammo

The math is scary. Estimated that 5.5 million rounds per month used in the recent Iraq war, and given dhs's acquisition of 1.6 billion rounds equates to about thirty years of sustained war-level usage. If it smells, feels and looks like Sh*t it probably is.

Re: DHS orders more ammo

Somebody said on here that they purchased Hollow Point because it's obviously practice ammo, and hollow point is less susceptible of ricochet lol

So, what if they stock up, and then force the ammo companies to shut down for ten/twenty years?

Re: DHS orders more ammo

Most federal agencies practice with their duty ammo. In talking to a Secret Service agent at a class some years back, he said that they did away with FMJ practice ammo because someone shot at and missed a suspect but hit a bystander. Again, third hand but supposedly the person was fired and then sued for their job back because of the difference in practice and duty ammo caused the person to miss. For what it's worth, in the past 5 years or so, I've only seen JHP and frangible ammo at a range with any Feds.

I'm just waiting for the ammo redistribution program. They do it with my money, when do we get some of the ammo?

Re: DHS orders more ammo

So I am wondering about the specific fed request. I am in the commercial construction biz and our company does a lot of work at JBLM, etc. so I am familiar with the Fed Biz Ops website/procurement process. There is a RFQ called an "IDIQ" which means indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity which may be what this is. Basically, it is a way the feds use to determine "best offer/low bidder". I will research more.

Re: DHS orders more ammo

Most law enforcment agencies "HAVE" to qualify with their duty ammo. I did as a state trooper and now I work with the USM service and we have to qualify twice a year with duty ammo. I believe most federal law enforcment agencies are under DHS and thats a lot of officers and a lot of ammo being shot.

Re: DHS orders more ammo

Pretty much NONE of the Federal law enforcement agencies are under DHS:
CIA - nope
FBI - nope
NSA - nope

DHS component organizations

DHS is:
FEMA - not sure these guys need a bunch of ammo
ICE - Sure - give em all they need
Border Patrol - they can borrow my ammo if they need it
TSA - paint guns would be too much
USCG - Not sure what these guys would be shooting at, but OK
USSS - Sure, they protect the folks that are trying to take away OUR guns..

Re: DHS orders more ammo

I honestly don't understand why DHS or DOJ ammo purchases get any attention. Some of you guys read way too much into the number of rounds purchased.

The FBI Academy alone burns through a million rounds a month just training new agents! Not to mention the twelve thousand agents out in the field that qual quarterly, with hollow point ammo. 12,000 X 300 (rounds per qual day) = 3.6 Million Rounds every quarter! 3.6M X 4 quarters = 14.4M per year. And this is just a very rough estimate of what the FBI is consuming.

Think about what the whole DOJ or DHS needs, just to stay current with qualifications.

They're not stockpiling ammo to come shoot us and take our guns.

Frangible ammo is only used on steel ranges and in shoot houses.

Re: DHS orders more ammo

The government is not ignorant and they see civil unrest increasing day by day. The government is planning for the future of these United States, the same future many on this forum see and prepare for.

Ditto.

In my AO it would be drug runners.

Bingo! We have a winner!

Re: DHS orders more ammo

BapZander, you missed a couple of biggies like Federal law enforcment training, Secret service, in all there are 22 agencies under DHS.

There is no big consperiecy in the federal goverment. I know a "Lot" of federal agents both USM and FBI and many feel the same way we all do.

Just because they work for the federal goverment doesn't make them all drones. Many are ex vets just like a lot of us and they are not for any kindof confisation either nor would they do it if told to.
