Magpul PRS question

I am going to be picking one up for my AR-15 and have heard some mixed information on the buffer tube. I will be converting it from the cheap 6 pos adjustable that came on the lower. Do I need a longer buffer tube assembly or can I use the current one and just install the PRS?

Re: Magpul PRS question

you have to use the full size buffer setup. the 6 pos will not work

Re: Magpul PRS question

you need a standard A2 rifle length buffer tube with out the extention, also I'm sure you know this but you will also need A2 buffer spring and buffer. If you need on installed I have a friend in denver that can install it for you!

Re: Magpul PRS question

Just FYI, I bought a PRS and had it for like 6 months just because I thought it looked cool. But after I got it, I really didn't like it, and just bought a standard M16A4 stock, put a Eagle Stock Pack on it, and haven't looked back. Again, just FYI.

I am looking to put some big glass on top, does the standard A4 stock get my cheek weld high enough to line up? I was only looking at the PRS because of the adjustment it offers. If you think the standard stock will suffice, I am more than willing to look into that option and put that savings into my optics.

+1. It was ok but was pretty heavy and I just could not get used to it. I actually went with a CTR and the RISR plate and love it. Depends on the rifle but I did not like it on my REPR.

Re: Magpul PRS question

I swapped from PRS to Fixed MOE, and while the cheek-weld isn't quite as nice, it is adequate for AR height scopes (@1.4" center above the rail).

You can even mount a short pic rail on the butt and run an accushot monopod.

1/4 the price of a PRS and close to 1.5# lighter.

Still need the rifle buffer set up.

Also an easy swap between PRS and Fixed Moe, 3 screws, only takes a minute.

Re: Magpul PRS question

I tried a PRS, but ended up liking the cheek weld on the ACS better so got one of those for my target AR. Feels a little weird having a carbine-length receiver extension on a target rifle, but works for me.

Re: Magpul PRS question

I really like my PRS stock. Its heavy by its on a heavy gun and most times I shoot it from the bench. Also you will need to get a standard length A2 buffer tube if you are coming from a carbine stock tube.

Re: Magpul PRS question

Thanks for the all the responses. Weight isn't a major concern. After glass and with the collapsable stock my AR is going to be close to 14 lbs, so this is a heavy gun. I have been building it with the purpose of LR shooting in mind. In retrospect, I should have restocked and barrelled my 7mm mag, but hindsight is 20/20 and I am sure that when this thing gets finished I will be pleased.

Re: Magpul PRS question

I would only put the PRS on 308 rifles that you intend to use in a DMR role. I put one on my LMT MWS Armalite AR10A4 and it came standard on my DPMS SASS. The PRS stocks are quite heavy and IMO would make a 556 carbine to bulky and to heavy. The Magpul ACS would be the way I would go and have. If you do decide to use the PRS you will need the A2 receiver extension tube, spring and buffer IIRC.
