I have a Brux SS barrel that has interrupted flutes on it and I would like to paint the flutes and have the rest of the barrel SS. Is there a easy, simple, way to do this without masking it off. I think the flutes are too small to tape the barrel off and cut the flutes out. I will be using Duracoat for the paint. Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: ? For the Painters

How wide are the flutes? Go to an auto supply house and buy 3m fine line tape. They sell in all sizes. I have never painted barrel with flutes. But I would use it and cut the ends and roll with it.

They make 1/8 inch wide. I forget what a roll cost. I think it would work real easy for what you want to do. But I have never painted flutes on a barrel. Someone here might have a better idea.

Sorry misread your post. Thought you wanted to keep the flutes SS

Re: ? For the Painters

Take some painters tape, tape up the entire barrel Length wise. Then take a small brass hammer and lightly tap the flute edges and let the flute "cut" the tape and then peel it off. Spray away.

Re: ? For the Painters

A ball bearing the same diameter as the flutes. Mask barrel with good painters tape, press the bearing firmly into the flutes and roll it the length of the flute once or twice. This will score the tape along the edge. peal the tape from the flute and go at it. Time consuming but best results for me.
