To no surprise, this pissed me off. If they're going to make this movie then they need to keep the hollyweird opportunist politics out of it...yeah right!

Bradley Cooper was already planning to make a movie based on the life of American Sniper author Chris Kyle when he heard the ex-Navy SEAL was killed last week at a gun range.

Now, Cooper wants to put the movie on the proverbial fast-track as well as star as the heroic military man. Cooper has another reason for wanting to go forward with the project, one that won't come as a surprise to anyone who followed the celebrity news in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. (Emphasis added)

“His story first of all really needs to be told, and it’s also relevant on two fronts: <span style="font-weight: bold">gun control</span> and the need to address the many soldiers who are coming back with PTSD. Medicine has evolved to such a state — soldiers are coming back and they’re going to assimilate into the culture and if we don’t address the mental state along with the physical state it’s going to be a problem.”

Will we see a lecture-filled biopic, or will Cooper and co. resist the ideological urge and simply pay tribute to an American hero?

Cooper is clearly becoming one of Hollywood's more politically engaged actors. Earlier this week, Cooper joined with Vice President Joe Biden to discuss mental illness in connection to gun violence.

Everyone has PTSD of some sort or the other, certainly don't mean they are crazy, not by a long shot.

The problem I see with all this "mental illness" BS is categorizing everyone in the same pot.

I see it coming, If you mention PTSD, you're gonna be put on the list. You wont pass any background checks. With out due process guaranteed by the 5th and 14th Amendment, your screwed.

So we have a bunch of Veterans who need help but wont seek it.

This crap will do more harm then good.

As to the Chris Kyle movie...........I wonder if in addition to Cooper anti gun theme he will mention that Kyle was pro-gun.

I doubt it.

Dead on Kraig! The mere mention of PTSD is enough to get your rights trampled and put on a no gun list. How long before Vets. are subject to home invasion type search and seizure? I guess this is one way for the Gubmit' to save money on Veterans care.

One would think (or at least hope) that Chris's estate would have control over any message they wanted to convey, unless they want to make it about a generic, fictional character and with a title other than "American Sniper."

I'm sure there are at least 15 or so individuals that served with Chris that would enjoy the opportunity to have a nice friendly discussion over coffee with Mr. Cooper...if he decides to stray off the original script.

I do not know Coopers politics, but I did hear the interview. The comment about relevance was the only comment made. No comments for or against were made that I heard. But the bottom line is that he apparently bought the rights to the story. Not sure what creative license that may give him. But one can only hope the "technical experts" he would need to pull this off will keep him pointed in the right direction.

I'm really hoping that playing "Face" in the A-Team hasn't given him the illusion of grandeur that he can portray one of the most decorated United States SEAL snipers easily. If he decorates Mr. Kyle in the fashion that he deserves then this movie might do very well but if he turns it into a political agenda against guns then he's going to get torn a new asshole. Remember that BC is a big supporter of Obama so we shall see.....

+1 It's sad that there are so few true champions of the second amendment in Hollywood. I would not want to begrudge the Kyle family of making as much money as possible from this movie but if it has an anti-second amendment undertone then I will not be paying to watch it. I'll just donate more money to their charity and pirate the movie.
