OK, have a "dilemma" on my hands and Im wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

I have a bunch of CM brass and I have a friend with a bunch (several pounds) of RL25 he doesnt really plan on using. I have access to a bunch of 140gr amax and a fresh 26" Bartlein barrel.

Now I do realize RL25 is a slower burning powder that is geared more towards big magnums. But all Im really looking for is a potentially consistent load to go and put lots of rounds down range and use up some resources without spending $1.25 a round on factory ammo, Im not looking for 2900fps.

Also, if you have tried it in a 6.5/260 type round and found it to be a complete failure, that would be just as helpful and end my hunt quickly.

I know no one can give me a specific load for my rifle, just looking for experience before I waste time and bullets.

Re: 6.5CM RL25

I guess the silence speaks for its self. No slow powder users in the 6.5CM?I know some people were using it for 243.

Re: 6.5CM RL25

It's too slow to really be functional, RL22 is on the slow side for that case with 140 class. RL19 is very close to H4350, it works extremely well there.

If you wanted good accuracy and reduced capacity youth loads it might not be a bad solution.

The overbore ratio on the 6.5C is close to a 30-06 and the 243 is closer to a 338Norma Mag.

Re: 6.5CM RL25

6.5 creedmoore seems to like the slower burning powders. I read an article awhile back from Hornady saying all their tests pointed towards slower burn rate powders for this cartridge. Hornady uses H4350 in their factory ammo if I remember correctly, lots of people (including myself) use Varget for his caliber. Both of which are just slightly faster than your reloader 25. I think it would be worth a try. The worst thing that would happen is that you can't work up a load that satisfies you and you have to go buy some different powder. You still end up with a proven caliber rifle for long distance.

Re: 6.5CM RL25

Ahh, understandable. Was just hoping maybe I could put together some 2700ish 140amax rounds with unused resources. But if it isnt going to work well, it just isnt.

I will probably load some up just to satisfy general curiosity.

Re: 6.5CM RL25

Depending on the finished length you might get 2700fps, but I tried it with H1000 on a lark (which is a little faster than RL25) I couldn't do better than 250fps slower than the H4350 I was shooting.

I'd like to hear what you get out of it, certainly better than any 308 Win load you can dream up. On a 26" barrel length I'd be surprised if you can hit 2700 but until you pull the trigger we won't know.

Good luck with it, if you don't mind, please post results when you get a chance.

Re: 6.5CM RL25

I think you'll end up with a full case of powder and no velocity.
I tried N560 in a 6.5x47 and never got over 2550, it's faster than RL 25.

I do like your train of thought though!

Hybrid 100v shot very well out of mine with the 140 grain bullets. I've got a lot of h4350 so that's what I use. But it's an alternative... Or h 4831
