I have a 16" Recce rifle that currently has a Falcon Menace on it and I'm wanting to replace the optics, but I'm not sure with what yet.

I was leaning towards ACOG TA31 but have read they have issues with eye relief and aren't the best when used with 77SMK. I'll have a MK12 Mod1 for more precision work and wanted the recce for more faster, less precise work.

What scope would you use for this rifle? I get a good discount through leupold and just discovered the MK4 1.5-5 with the CMR2 reticle. Anyone have any experience with the CMR2 reticle and 77smk?

I'll most likely be putting the leupold mk4 3.5-10 with M5 on the MK12 Mod1, so if it were you, what would you put on the recce? I've heard super snipers are good too??

Thanks for any replies, as I can't make up my mind

Putting a Leupold 1-6 mk 6 on mine. I have two mk 4 1.5x5 and I was not a fan of the low end of 1.5.

Re: Opinions on optic for Recce rifle

as always, what is your intended use for this gun - honest to goodness self-defense, or sporting?

and what is your budget?

a lot of people believe a 1-4 defines a Recce. now that the 1-6 are making an appearance some are moving to that. higher number on the top is good but IMO, a 1x (or very nearly) on the bottom is necessary for the concept of a Recce to be valid.

if this is a serious use gun, durability/reliability with a daylight visible illum is necessary so you're probably looking at a cost somewhat above the Menace you're going to replace.
for sporting use (hunting, training, paper punching) you'll have more options in the more affordable category...

I have used the SS 1-4 and it's built well enough that I consider it a serious use optic, however, I'm moving to the 1-6 when they become available...

and I also had a Burris MTAC which I really liked. the reticle is daylight bright and it's a great, affordable choice for a general purpose/sporting scope. it's not a target scope but it was well suited for my needs and the loads I shoot in this role. I feel it's tough enough for training but all in all, I wouldn't stake my life on it's durability and I wouldn't choose this for serious use.

there's others but without knowing your needs and budget it's hard to make a worthwhile recommendation...

Re: Opinions on optic for Recce rifle

Thanks for the reply. Id like to keep it around 1000.00 budget. Ive heard the Vortex 1-6 is a good one as well as some others. Not sure yet as I'm still researching but I'm gonna go the 1-4 or 1-6 route for this rifle.
