Love to shoot, but I am a workaholic who doesn't get much trigger time. I am cheap so I shoot a lot of un reloadble surplus and wolf.
After a few years I finally make the decision that this year 2012 I will buy my press and learn a new skill and add to my overall shooting knowledge base.

Early December I am patiently waiting for the Cabellas Employee Pricing sale, and then the stooooooooopid hits after Sandy hook.

I have a my press, and I have all the items needed to reload 45, but I can't find powder, primers, or bullets.

FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK
I have a 9mm die set but no shell plate
I have a 308 shell plate, but no dies
My midway order for those items and my 223 stuff was pushed back from 2/4 to now 5/5.

On the bright side. I am acquiring odds and ends and I might get powder and bullets by that point.

It looks like I'll be shooting a lot of 22LR and my mosins this year.

My entire hobby is on back order.

Two questions:
Other than reloading manuals ( I am reading the hornady version), what would you consider required reading for someone looking to load the common calibers (9mm, 45acp, 223, 308)?

What is the most frustrating thing you have on order/back order (mine is reloading gear and an OBR).

Re: 2013 Reloading Saga

Everybody was fairly warned in '08/'09.

Fool me once shame on you...

I self taught myself before I had a computer/internet by reading the Speer 12 and Nosler IV manuals and the HANDGUNS monthly reloading article.

There are tutorials on this site, tacked above and over on AR15.com, which will help you out quite a bit.

Buy another manual, or two and read and reread them.

One is NEVER a good reader, only a good rereader.

Re: 2013 Reloading Saga

Did the same in the last year. I only have loaded precision ammo and and I got to say the stickies on this web sight have helped more than anything else. Also did allot of Google searches and reading. I'm down to 500 .223's and about the same in 7mmrm. I need more projectiles in a bad way.

Re: 2013 Reloading Saga

What kind of press do you have? I assume by reading your post it is a Hornady LNL?

As for books - get a publication from the maker of the powder you plan to use, get a manual from the bullet manufacturer you plan to use, and get Lyman 49 in addition to ABC's. I read the ABC's 5 times before I bought my own press, but I was a lot more confident when I finally struck out on my own.

20+ years ago when I first got in to shooting and reloading I subscribed to 5 or 6 different gun magazines. I also picked up oddball ones here and there that I didn't subscribe to.

I think one thing that started me out a few years prior to that was my dad got me a Shooters Bible for xmas.

I have $450 worth of magazines for my AR's and AR-10 on BO from Brownells, I'm hoping they come in before the ban. I got an email today that part of my order shipped today. :)
