Well The Devcon should be cured and my rifle should be shipping out in the next 3 days. I might have it as soon as friday, likely by tuesday. It's like f-ing christmas as a kid again.

I sent Marc Soulie of Spartan Precision Rifles a parts supplied rifle build after I heard great things from friends that had Marc build their rifles. I was originally going to have Gnats Ass precision build it, but their barreled actions are 6 months out (at the time I was ordering barrels etc). I was somewhat limited with what I could get at the time I was piecing this thing together 3 months ago. Originally this was going to be a 260 remington. However the caliber change in just my dillon reloading gear would have been 300 plus, and I had a crap load of Lapua 308 brass. The 6.5 barrels from any vendor that was in stock were also nil, I had sold my 6.5 Krieger barrel to a hide member months before thinking the build would take to long. With several hundred 175gr SMK bullets and several hundred pieces of lapua brass / 16 lbs of varget I decided to stick with 308 for this build.

Ended up with the following specs from parts I sourced which were on shelves in stock at various dealers around the nation.
-24 inch finished length Bartlein 11.25:1 5r barrel. m40 contour, threaded /capped. chamber reamer used was 308 match 150 bisley.
-Walmart ADL 243 win doner rifle, trued by Spartan
- 4-40 receiver holes for scope (hope to get a B.E.A.S.T this summer)
-Badger recoil lug and bolt knob
-Manners T4a pillar bedded with skim coat in devcon (KMW loggerhead)
-Remington xmark pro adjustable trigger set to 2.5 lbs
-PTG Bottom metal
-AICS 10 round mags
-Nightforce 40 moa scope base. YES 40 moa...

Suppressor and Nightforce B.E.A.S.T to come summer / fall 2013.

I am just waiting on getting a couple fired cases to start sizing and loading up ammo for testing, I never use factory ammo due to match ammo prices. If I do my job behind the rifle I should be getting bug holes/ ragged hole groups. Serious anticipation till I get her in my hot little (ok, maybe not to little) hands. Pictures to follow!!! Don't ask how much it cost, cause I don't wanna add it up lol.

Looks like it will be delivered tuesday night. Still excited as hell... can't wait. I have ammo loaded and ready.

Re: Spartan built 308 win build.

My brother and I were actaully down at Marc's yesterday, he cut down and threaded our .308 barrels and timed our JEC brakes for us. I do believe I saw your rifle as he was working on it yesterday. All I can say about Marc is that he is a master at what he does, the precision and detail he put into just cutting, crowning and threading our barrels was unbelievable. He is one of the nicest guys around and was more than willing to show us the steps that went into doing the work. I can't say enough nice things about him. I am sure you will be more than pleased with the work Marc has done on your rifle and it will be a tack driver for sure.

Enjoy

Re: Spartan built 308 win build.

Congrats on getting the rifle! I sent Marc a Badger M2008 action and barrel for a 6 Creedmoor assembly.

I look forward to getting mine from Marc as well.

I was able to have lunch with Marc last week since he was up in Portland, great guy as others have said. We talked about all kinds of stuff, but the most important was the specs of my new hunting build I'm going to have him do....

Gap camo manners stock? Yeah, he said he chipped a corner of the bedding and was fixing it. I bet it looked sexy as hell lol.

Yeah, I almost went up to meet him but it sounded like he had a lot on his plate with the reason why he was up there. I have no doubt it will be a great rifle. I am just waiting on the scope rail and an oal length gauge to set up some ammo once I get the breakin over with.

Re: Spartan built 308 win build.

Yeah that was the one I saw, he showed us several rifles he was working on along with his comp rifle. I do believe he was turning down your bolt knob for the Badger knob when we showed up.

It sure is a great looking rifle, I'm a bit jealous for sure

Re: Spartan built 308 win build.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

USMC- Your rifle was put on a UPS truck this morning as promised. You should have received an email from them directly with tracking info. I have to say that is the first time I've had someone post about my product before actually receiving it :)

Frank- Your on the board for early next week so it will ship out no later than Thursday.

mveto- You and your brother are welcome here anytime. Let me know if those shoot any differently after giving them a proper crown.

Jason- Send me some parts asap bud. In another few months I'll temporarily stop taking on customer supplied parts builds and focus only on complete rifle packages for the remainder of this year. My shelves are full of parts that need to be built into rifles and I still haven't received the parts for my AR-10 group build or the Hide group build. I'm moving into a new, larger facility with some new machines and very skilled help no later than May 1 so that will help a great deal.

I have shot a couple of rifles you built last year when I made it down to sac town. Regina kinda finished off the recommendations and that was enough. I have heard mixed reviews of several rifle companies but I have only heard good things about you. And I couldn't do wrong with one of your sticks in 260. The quick turnaround time was a great motivator also. A complete rifle build in what? 3 months? My pistol gunsmith takes longer than that to do much of anything and I lack patience sometimes.

As promised rifle photo!

Once a couple things get dialed in I will be painting the barreled action and possibly the stock/ scope. Note the M40/ #14 profile barrels aren't much smaller than the MTU contour and are what I would call "Man" barrel lol. Currently chambered in 308 bisley match with 0.88. Might go longer to 0.114-0.116 to run heavier bullets for the F-TR class.

photo update. So took her out to the mountains on a ridiculous wind day and was humbled. But she did her job but 973 yards on a 12inch plate your wind call has to be right lol.

Looks purdy. I liked it the other way, too! I agree with you on needing a good wind call with a 308 at nearly 1K! ;-)
