Hey guys. I'm currently running a millett LRS-1 6-25/56 .25 moa scope on my current .338 win mag remington 700 Sendero. My new barrel should be in within the next two weeks from rock creek to build my new .338 edge off my 700 receiver. I will be purchasing the new nightforce ATACR or B.E.A.S.T. To ride atop it when finished and was wondering if I should order the .1 mil version or the .25 moa version. I like the new velocity 1000 reticle they are offering in it. Very similar to the Horus! I will be running nightforce's ballistic program on PDA and another ballistic program on my iPhone and was wondering what is the best for long range precision shooting? Not just long range hunting as I may compete in some long range sniper competitions with it at some point. I will also be using a leupold mark 4 20-60/80 spotter with mild-dot reticle in first focal plane if this makes a difference. Thanks guys.

doesn't matter really, get whatever matches your reticle.

I consider "MOA" to be precision and "Mil" to be more tactical match oriented.
Mil is a base 10 system that is fast once you know how to use it, but I believe MOA is a finer degree of adjustment (.25 MOA vs .1 Mil)
That may or may not make a difference to you at the range you're planning to shoot. At 1000, I say it's preference.

I would say get mil to match your spotter. That way there is little math involved in the communication. I prefer MOA but that's because all the guys I regularly shoot with use MOA and it is easy to give corrections to each other very quickly

For me, I prefer the reticle & clicks to match. That said, I don't personally have much occasion at all to make a corrective measurement with the reticle, and then dial that measurement/adjustment in. Thus, I don't necessarily have any particular difficulty dialing minutes on a mil-dot reticle, because I'll be dialing from my drop/dope chart, most likely. I still think it's reasonably stupid for scope manufacturers to mix and match, though.

Not trying to lose focus of your thread but how do you like that millet scope? Im thinking about one for my new Remington 700v in 22-250 and would like some input. Thanks!

At 100 yards, I print really small groups and have to hold up and to the left a little to center it with 0.1 mil adjustments. At that time I wish for finer...0.05 mil adjustments or something.

Then I start shooting at several hundred yards and DGAF.

Short story. Doesn't matter as long as reticle and adjustments match. I use mil because they're more awesomer, easy to compute everything as just 1/1000 of the range rather than just estimating based on approximate inches at 100 yard conversions. I also use my GPS to get range for >700 yards, my rangefinder doesn't work well above that and I'm not getting a better one yet, and my GPS breaks out meters really while while it switches to 0.01 mi increments after about 500 yards or whatever I can't think in that. Mils are definitely easier with metric measurements.

I'm rambling. Sorry. It doesn't matter, just make sure the reticle and adjustments match.

It'll get you into the ball park to where you can start truing up your adjustments and zero. </div></div>

All you have to do is use the reticle as a ruler. No reason to think about inch conversions. You don't know how far off shots are by looking unless you use a reticle as a rule, or walk to the target and get out a ruler.

I like it. For the money it's a great scope! But nothing compares to a nightforce! And nightforce is made in America!
