I've got a new 6.5x47 and access to a lot of 140 AMAXs down here in NZ, but I'm at a loss for finding good data on this combo? After doing quite a bit of searching here, I get the impression the 140s are not that popular in this cartridge?

I'm running a 26" barrel and my intention is to hit steel at 1000m.

    What is your twist rate?

What brands of powder can you get?

H4350 will get you to 2650 and that will give you:

    Re: 6.5x47 with 140 AMAX?

I'm getting 2725 fps with 39.5 grs of H4350 out of 22" Rock barrel. It's not as accurate as the berger 140 VLD's but I haven't done alot of load development with them. RL 17 will give me 2900+ but it is temp sensitive.

    Re: 6.5x47 with 140 AMAX?

This is promising. It's a 1:8.5 twist and I have a bunch of AR2209 (H4350) handy. I'm hoping to push them closer to 2800fps.

I'm hoping to win the Powerball tomorrow night. Given case size, I think going 140 is a waste, yes heavier bullet, higher bc, but dimished velocity.
In my 2 6.5x47's, I shoot 130 Norma's, with a bc of .575 by Litz. I think it's higher, but my velocitis are 2820 & 2860, not pushing hard, but close. So thinking 2800 with a 140, mmmmm.
Velocity drops fast in this case with weight, I've seen 123's at 3100, not too many 130's at 3000. Like I said it drops off fast, and for 140, the amax's bc sucks.
    I do uunderstand economics though.

Ah well, this combination was a matter of convenience more than anything.
