Im pretty new to reloading and the 243 so i need alittle help finding a good start point for a load. I have a 1-9.125 twist 20" barrel and am looking for a good load for out to 700 yrds. Been looking at the 105news a-max and the 107 sierra matchkings. Will they stabilize with that twist or should i look at something like a 80-100 grain round. Also would 4350 be a good powder to start or should i go with some thing else.

Re: New to 243you and reloading

The 107 SMK's will need a 1 in 7.7 to 1 in 8 twist to stabilize them. the 95 Gr SMK even needs a 1 in 9 because it is so long. With a 20 inch barrel, you are going to want a medium burning powder to get up to speed, and 4350 should get the job done. I think you will have an easier time with the A-max bullets, but your barrel is probably suited more for the 85-87 grain bullets.

Re: New to 243you and reloading

I have the same twist and barrel length, I've had good luck with 95g noslers with imr7828 @2900fps.

Re: New to 243 and reloading

I also have a .243 with a 1 in 9.125" twist barrel. Get sub quarter moa with 95 grain berger vlds and 39 grains 4350.

Re: New to 243 and reloading

I had a Rem. VLS in .243, 9.25 twist that really liked RL17 & 95 Berger VLD's. Primers were Fed 210's.

Re: New to 243 and reloading

Rmitch223- thats some good info. I may try that.
I also just ordered some 95gr bergers to give them a try. Now i just need to figure out the powder and primers. My local shop has 4350a and winchester primers so i may try that route.

Well went to my local shop and he had R22 and some Accurate 4350. I think i may pick up a pound of each and see what happens. I dont know much about the R22 though. Will this be OK in my 243?

My win70 22 8nch barrel has max load of 45gr with 100gr Speer bullet moa no problem feels a little hot looking at primers, velocity is 2950 on a -10c day will be 3000 easy on a warm day.but I feel maybe , should back off a little maybe 44.7 will do
