Welcome to the Hide. Please fill out your profile. Need some info on your intended use for the rifle in order to offer useful input about glass. Choices range from the Redfield line to S &B PM II.

You can get more help with a little more info. What do you plan to use the rifle for? What are your goals? What is your budget for the scope? There are tons of options out there

Re: New Rifle, Need Glass

What is your intended purpose? A hunting rifle, Benchrest/F class, Tactical competitions, etc? What kind of budget do you have?

Re: New Rifle, Need Glass

Sorry about lack of information.

Have become interested in long range shooting and decided to invest in an entry level rifle, in a caliber I know something about (308) to see if my interest is real. I think 1, 2, and out to 300 yard ranges would be appropriate to start.

I chose the Savage 10FCP-K after my research found that it is an economicaly priced rifle with a reputation for being reasonably accurate "out of the box". I want a scope for this rifle that is as competant as the rifle and a good value but under $500.

Thanks !

The SWFA SS previously mentioned is definitely a good option. I have also heard good things about the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 4.5-14x44 for $300. Or a Nikon Monarch M308 for $530 would be a great choice for you because the turrets are calibrated out to 800yds for the 168gr bullet that many people use. Another consideration is the Vortex Viper HS Tactical 5-15x44. It is at the top of your price range, but it comes packed with features and is a great scope. It is only sold here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/183567/...t-reticle-matte Of the ones I listed, I personally would choose either the Vortex or the Nikon. Check them out

Re: New Rifle, Need Glass

You do want to have enough left for rings/base, but don't skimp too much on the glass. I know for a fact your rifle is very capable. I shoot my Savage 10FP at 1000yds regularly. You will need to start closer, but leave yourself room to progress and get the gear that will take you there.
