Can somebody enlighten me as to why anyone would use imperial wax over any spray application, other than cost. I see so many hyping the wax , even have some myself , but the spray with a bag is sooooo much faster

Re: Case lube

Tried them both. Imperial may be good for some. I find the spray into a zip-lok bag is much faster, and in my humble opinion, better. I really like the mix of 10% Castor oil, 10% Liquid Lanolin, and 80% alcohol...isopropyl or denatured doesn't seem to matter.

Re: Case lube

Imperial can be applied just as fast as spray.

Put a few hundred rounds of ready to be sized brass is a large tupperware or shoe box. Put a nice dab of imperial on one palm. Rub your hands together until both palms covered in imperial. Now stick your hands in the brass, grabbing playing pawing etc all the brass until you have a little imperial touching all the brass...takes about 10 seconds...then, without washing your hands, size away. It took a lot longer to type this than it does to lube up 400 pieces of brass this way.

Re: Case lube

Spray - volume

Imperial - case forming

Most sprays work very well, but of the five or six I've used none are as slick as Imperial. ONE is like sandpaper compared to Imperial.

Re: Case lube

Spray is convenient and works well, but I still break out the Imperial for forming.

I use kitchen rubber gloves for this same process. The lube stays on my hands longer, and no mess when I'm done.

Re: Case lube

I have checked my head space consistancy many times and found the wax to deliver by far the best results, and never even had a case be sticky, must less stuck.
As always YMMV based on delivery
Rob

PS, that being said, I still use th spray when batch loading with a Dillon. Wax is for single stage precision.

Re: Case lube

Some are missing my question.
I wasn't trying to knock or compete. Asking for help and info,
I have only loaded about 1000 round total in my life and still learning

Re: Case lube

I put my empty cases in a ziplock bag, apply spray lube in the bag, and then work the outside of the bag to get the cases coated. Done this for tens of thousands of rounds, and never had a stuck case.

Re: Case lube

I have been doing something a little different lately and it works great. I put some liquid lanolin on the palms of my hands and take 4-7 cases in my hands and roll them back and forth like I was rolling a cigar. What I like about this metohd is it gives me the most consistent force when sizing over any of the other methods I have used, it is just a very consistent light force required on my old rockchucker.

Lots of methods work, you need to try some different methods and see which works for you best.

Re: Case lube

Hornady One Shot in a zip lock bag works good for me. Have had very good luck with it so far.

Re: Case lube

Forster sizing lube.

RCBS lube pad. Roll 1 to 10 cases on the pad, size. Into the bucket. Tumble or sonic to clean off lube.

But that's for when I need to FL size after annealing or semi auto's

Usually, tumble, Lee collet neck size. Sometimes sonic clean if necks to dirty for brushing.

Same here. Use it right and it works just fine. The problem comes when people don't read the directions.

Re: Case lube

Damn, you guys must be speed loading

I was a fan of One Shot even though I would have a stuck case here and there. When I ran out I picked up some Imperial. That stuff is awesome. Its so slick it almost feels like there is no case sizing being done. I wear a non latex glove and dab my finger tips into the the wax. Every time I pick up a case I give it a small twist of my thumb and fingers and voila'. One "dab" is good for about 5 cases. No spraying into a bag and churning up the cases. Its actually faster than spraying because I eliminate one step, the spray and wait

Re: Case lube

I use imperial on 243, 7mm-08, 260, and 308. I use hornady 1 shot on all 223 (in the bag) and very rarely have issues. I noticed that the straiter the case wall the more issues I have had with one shot, so I can get away with one shot on tapered rifle cases.

Re: Case lube

RCBS Case slick sprayed on a lube pad.

Roll case on pad.

Size.

Never got a stuck case yet. And accuracy is excellent.

I swear.... some people seem to get their jollies off making things complicated....

Re: Case lube

Both work well. I think it's a matter of preference. Try both out and go with the one that suits you. Neither cost that much and it's not like the stuff expires like a gallon of milk.

Re: Case lube

I use Imperial for neck sizing, and Dillon sprayed into a gallon zip-lock bag for volume. The only issues that I have had with One-shot is having the can loose its pressure with age. I tend to buy in volume when I catch a good sale, and you loose that price advantage if the stuff goes bad and you have to throw it out. Lightman

Re: Case lube

Now I will get the argument rolling. I use synthetic 5w30. Put case in rock crushed, dip left pointer finger in shot glass full of oil, wipe lower half of case with the oil, run case up and down remove. You can run about 5-8 cased before reapply.

Re: Case lube

Pam non-stick cooking spray for really tough sizing/forming. It works for regular sizing also. I haven't tried Imperial because I can't seem to remember to add it to an order when I make one.

Re: Case lube

I think they both have their place. I use Imperial for all my bottle neck on a single stage, and the spray lube/bag method for all my straight wall pistol that I run through a progressive.
