Thinking about an Obermeyer 5r barrel for a 300 WM build. What does the smaller bore diameters mean to me? Anyone have much experience with them, I've heard their great barrels.

    Re: Obermeyer barrel?

It means you should work loads up, because pressure may be encountered earlier than a non tight bore.

It means you should tell your smith its a tight bore so he can have the smaller pilot bushings on hand when he is ready to chamber your barrel.

    They're good barrels.

Great barrels. I bought mine from Bugholes here for my 300 WM build last year (11 twist) and it is extremely accurate!

    Re: Obermeyer barrel?

Obermeyer barrels are known for their accuracy, one reason is due to their underbore size...you'll be good to go with them.

as above, start low and look for pressure signs when working up a load.

    Re: Obermeyer barrel?

I've got two, 6.5 & 7mm (both from Bugholes). The 6.5 has shown very good accuracy... & not finicky at all. I have yet to shoot the 7mm.

Dumb question, it's obvious that pressure would increase, but if you wanted to shoot 190-220's out of it, would it have any bearing on what twist you should select? Normally I choose a 1 in 9 for heavier bullets, if I use a tighter barrel iike Obermeyer or Jarrett does that mean I have to select a different twist?

Anyone know what changes are made by decreasing barrel diameter, other than pressure anyway?

my obmetyer barrel is so tight that I am running a full 3 grains less on my load pushing a bullet faster than with my factory remington barrel. You won't be disappointed.
