• Watch Out for Scammers!

We've now added a color code for all accounts. Orange accounts are new members, Blue are full members, and Green are Supporters. If you get a message about a sale from an orange account, make sure you pay attention before sending any money!

Number of Posts went way down

My problem is that I link to several historic post/threads - Now the links go nowhere. They have actually gone, I can't track them down anywhere. It looks like a wad of stuff from 2010 - 2012.

As 1066 I too noticed a pattern. I lost EVERYTHING from 5-20-2010, items I ever bought/sold, all subscriptions and friends list.
I don't see random on my end so I'm curious about that.
I'm not concerned about my count but I appreciate others reasons.
The friends list and subscriptions bother me most as an intentional source of reference both past and future.
I don't like it but will live with it.

They are running scripts in the background, it may not bring the post count back, but the threads and posts should be getting indexed.

The search feature appears to be working better as they process this along

Hey Frank, I know you are getting flooded with gripes after the changeover. Just wanted to say I like the new site and thanks for all the work you put in to keeping this place going and improving it.

There must be a lot going on in the background here. I appreciate the effort of all those involved.

I had to migrate a forum at work (internal server, only about 30 users and a couple hundred posts) from one forum software to another... it was a freaking nightmare.
The sheer volume of data you're working with here makes my sack shrink just thinking about it...

You have my thanks, my admiration, and my acceptance that "it'll be what it'll be..." when it's all done.
Of course, that doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer the ability to add an avatar... ( not workin', but I'm not in a hurry... )

I'm seeing my old posts I reffered to come back online. Anyone else?

BTW, nice work Frank!!

If a number of your "missing posts" returned today, congrats ( as we finished a full reindex of all threads/posts/etc... and regenerated all the user post stats earlier today ).

If they didn't come back.. they may not be returning, as some "sales" posts we excluded from the migration.

For the record, I lost 900, mostly in the reloading section, I'll bet, because that's where I post most often.

More than some, but not nearly as many as others. Wonder if some boards got hit harder?

The reason post count has been diminished is due to how the new count interface works.

Previously, if you made a post, it simply added N+1, now things have changed. The way the system works now, is that the post count is value based...that is, you only get counted if your post significantly contributes to the Original Posting. Since the new alogrithm was applied to the entire database, if you lost post count, it was because you didn't have a positive contribution or was wrong to the thread upon which you responded.

Basically, if you lost thread count...you suck.

in all seriousness...It's late, I'm tired and am trying to increase post count ((because post count is really important to those that don't know me))

I'm way under a 100 now, hope I don't need to sell anything for awhile :(

It set me back well under a hundred too and unfortunatly, I do need to sell something in the near term. Shame of it is that I have always been extremely careful to respond via PMs on most items vice via the thread so as to not just run up my numbers. I will survive this though.

If this statement is not sarcastic and is valid, then I totally disagree that your "new algorithm" is working. Speaking only for myself, I believe that at least 95 percent of everything I have ever posted on these forums, since 2006, has contributed to the OP. Most of my posting came on either the reloading, rifles, optics, gunsmithing, equipment, fieldcraft, and for-sale forums.....and the vast majority of times, IMO, my post helped or contributed to the OP. I never saw the value in "LOL", "wish I had the money", "+1", etc..

I am not responding to simply flame your post or stir the pot, and I appreciate the need for, and labor to, change this site's software. As I stated before, at some point there should be a reasonable criteria and subjective solution applied to this issue. Someone needs to make a decision that is not based on "new algorithms" IF the lost post issue will never be resolved.

If a majority of your posts were in the for sale section, well we pruned almost 65,000 post from there before bringing any information over, so the posts were cut on the UBB side.

There is a plan in the works to handle the FS section, but its slow going.

I will make a new update, but just to let others know I will not be answering any PMs on the subject any more, I will simply delete them
