I have an opportunity to buy an older Night force 5.5-22x50 sfp npr-1 no zero stop for $1300 or an IOR 3.5x18 sfp with modified mp8 reticle for $1600. Does anyone have insights as to which might be the better investment for long range?

This scope isn't on your list, maybe it should be?

SWFA SS HD 5-20x50 Tactical 30mm Riflescope $1,299.95
First Focal Plane; Mil-Quad Reticle 30mm; 0.1 Mrad Elevation & Windage

This review might just change your mind:

I have 2 NF NXS 5.5-22x50mm scopes. One on my .308 and the other on my .338LM. I have had nothing but great results with this scope. I shoot 1 mile + with my .338LM.
Very durable. Zero Stop / Speed Turret is also very useful.

On the other hand, my buddy had the IOR scope you are referring to. He shot less than 30 rounds on his new SAKO Tikka and the internal mechanism too a shit! Gone! He
returned it to the factory. They replaced it and he then sold it. Bought the same scope I have and is very happy with it.

Another buddy of mine had an IOR. Had problems with it as well. Did the same thing. Returned it to the factory and then promptly sold it. He bought Bushnell I believe and
has had good success with it. Now he runs a U.S. Optic.

IOR has beautiful glass but it ain't for shit as far as durability goes. Something to consider is all I'm saying.

It was a 3.5-18x50 that went bad? Haven't heard of one failing yet, not saying it didn't happen just many people group the 3-18x42 and 3.5-18x50 as the same scope. The pre 4th gen 3-18x42 had problems.

IOR better glass, NF better construction. I have owned both and was much happier with the IOR and had no problems out of the 5 I have owned.
