My old rcbs case trimmer 2 is getting worn out and cutter is very dull. I know you can order new cutters but with the collet system for holding brass it takes a while to trim a large amount of brass! I am thinking about getting a new system. I have an old Wilson that I have never used but before ordering alot of the shell holders for the Wilson I also one of the wft trimmers for 22-250 and it is ok but I would like something more on the precession side. So I thought I would ask what is the preferred set up?

I forgot to add I will be trimming 22-250,25-06,260,308 and 338 laupa

Or the Gracey, it's a little less expensive. I've got both; recently upgraded my Gracey with parts Giraud makes specifically for upgrading the Gracey, go figure. Both index off the shoulder which may/may not work if neck sizing.

I use a Lyman Universal Chuck trimmer with their power drill adapter bar. I've done 223, 22-250, 260, 308, 7RM and 338LM on it for years. 10-12 cases per minute. No 3 way cutter option without modifying the bar to accept the RCBS 3 way heads, but that can be done. Mine's +/- .001", depending on my 'touch' that day.

You can get the combo for under $100.

There is very little accuracy wise in trim lengths, trimming brass back is a safety chore, so don't get your panties in a wad over a few thou in trim lengths, with that said if you want to hand crank get a Wilson Trimmer, its simply a micro lathe for trimming, order fired case holders for each family of cartridges you want to trim, ie the 308 will trim 243 260 7-08, 30-06 does all the gay redneck hunting rounds or 270 25-06, if your trimming mass quantities of brass and your time is better spent doing anything but preping brass get a Giraud, yes there expensive, but being able to trim and chamfer in/out every 3-5 seconds makes it so very worth the asking price.

Yep, I agree 100%.
But he needs to be aware of the fact that he's gonna have to buy 5 cutters and 5 bushings to cover all of the calibers he listed.
I did my initial set up for 3 different calibers. It was well worth the cost, but it added a lot of $$ to the base cost of the machine.

After 20+ years with an RCBS, I recently upgraded to a Wilson with micrometer adjustment. I love it...Wilson makes top notch gear.

Just reviewed your original post...since you already have a Wilson, why not give it a try? Order a 308 holder and you can try it on 308 and 260 as well. Spend $10 on one holder, and if you don't like it, sell the whole setup.

Not sure how many brass you trim per year. I use an RCBS Power Trimmer with three way cutter to trim at least 2000 cases each year(probably around 250 per hour). This unit has served me well for over 15 years. I currently have 9 three way cutters to cover many calibers. I have only seen the Giraud on videos and it looks like one hell of a machine if you trim a shit load of brass.

I use a Wilson for my brass trimming. I have a power adapter and can trim a bunch of cases without a bunch of effort. I'd say put that trimmer into service and see if you like it. It is very accurate and is as well built as any. Good luck, J

I have a Wilson and love the thing.

Just picked up a Dillon 1200 for the 223 though... Trimming a thousand pieces of brass in a sitting on the Wilson does suck....
