Rifle Scopes Scope for savage 110FCP .338 Lupua

Hello, I was looking at the vortex viper pst 6-24x50 FFP scope for my savage 338 Lupua. Question is this a good scope? Or is there a better scope? I would like to stay under $1400 if all possible.

If you're simply asking if it will function properly, then yes it will and you have Vortex's warranty backing it if/when that .338LM tears it up. I can't say if it's a good scope for you because other than the rifle you put it on, you put no context into your post. How are you going to use it?

I picked up a used Nightforce 5.5-22 on here for $1400 on my 110BA 338 Lapua, just keep your eyes open in the classifieds. I see Leupolds and SWFA scopes for less as well, but if you want something brand new, it will be tough to get something near that.

WOW, that's it? OP, if you want to shoot past 1000yds with it, even with a 20MOA canted base, you might want to look elsewhere. There's some 5.5-22x NXS Nightforce models hitting clearance and the used sales all the time that's pretty near your budget level.

I would strongly consider checking out the SSWFA SS 5-20x50 HD. That has 30Mil of internal travel which is better then the PST. They are also rated up to .50bmg so it shouldn't have much of an issue with your .338LM. As was stated you are going to want to look at at least a 20-30 MOA canted base as that rifle has some legs on it.

I've been using a PST 6-24x50 SFP on my 110fcp 338LM with over 350-400 rounds to date. It works great, no problems, tracks true. I use a GG&G cantilever ring mount with the scope and has been used on my PSS in 7mm mag and SPS in .308win. With the 338LM I've scored hits on targets out to 1600 yards, which is the longest distance I have tried, to date. I don't believe you will have any problems with the Vortex scope regarding recoil damage.

At about 200rounds, I ditched the muzzle brake that came with my 110fcp 338lm and installed a Ross Schuler brake... major improvement! The original brake has extremely oversized ports making the last 2 ports almost useless. The Ross Schuler brake really takes the sharpness(becomes more of a push) out of the recoil with the hotter loads (+92gr. H1000 behind a 300gr. Berger). It also helps keep the muzzle from jumping up and keeping glass on target is easier.

19 mils of travel is signifcant. If it were MOA that would be a different story. But even with 9.5 mils on a 338 that should get him beyond the 1000 yard mark. Mine makes the 1200 with about 6.5 mils.

Got a Leupold VX7 on mine, picked up used for $800. IMO not designed for it but works great. Last weekend was doing 1" groups at 300 yards. Haven't stretched it's legs out yet past that, so we'll see.

Werew, what's your COL on that Berger? I've got OTM tacticals and they're easily .200 longer than the Lapua Scenars in 300gr. Rather than hijack, I'll PM you.

I had this scope on my 110BA .338 LM and am looking for a new one. There is not enough internal elevation to shoot past 1500 yards with a 100 yard zero. Glass is good and it seemed to track fine. I am not sure what I am going to replace it with, but I am leaning towards a NF 5-22X56, if I can find one for the right price.

If you are going to shoot .338 LM, you might as well stretch it out. You will want a scope with more elevation for that.

I agree that's a good bit of travel when you run it on a canted base, but I'm talking about getting it beyond .308 range without pushing the limits on the ocular center of the scope as well. In this day of 25-30 mils of available travel that's easily attainable within his budget, I would look for more travel in an ELR style rig. SWFA SS 5-20x50 immediately comes to mind with one of the SFP NXSs as an option too in used pricing.

I view available elevation in a scope like buying a gun safe. Get the most you can afford for those cold sea level days with a -2000ft DA.

Run a 20 Moa base, 9.5 mils plus 8 on the reticle and it's plenty for a 338. That'll get you well past 1k for a 308 as well. Just depends on your budget and needs.
