Ohio Rayners Feb 23-24 LR steel plate match

Rayners will be starting their LR steel plate matches February 23-24. Hope everyone is all loaded up and sighted in. I think everything is still the same as last year except for starting time will be 9:00AM on both Saturday and Sunday. Be there at the latest by 8:30 for shooters meeting.

Price will still be $20.00 for the match. Thirty six (36) rounds needed to shoot the entire course. Shoot the lower half, then lunch break then the upper half. Six stations with two sets of targets at each one. You get three shots at each distance with some stations having various size targets, larger is lower value and smaller is higher value. This lets the shooter choose and gamble on their and their equipments ability for what size target to shoot at.

Here is a short clip showing their targets used at the matches. It's an older video and the 775 yard target is moved to 720 yards and a few stations have multiple size targets to choose from that varies from the video. No prize table or big egos, just a fun time shooting on a very challenging course with a lot of good competitors.

Last year nearly all matches had between 60 and 80 entries, highest possible score is 645 and so far high score is 390 so that shows how challenging it is. Tom is also considering a Long Range 22LR match, possibly out to 400 yards. Should be another quite challenging match. Tom also allows shooters to use the range for practice for the cost of $10.00 for the entire day per person. Call ahead to make sure nothing is scheduled that day so you can have full access.

About 20 to 25 minutes South of I-70 below Cambridge/Zanesville. It takes the same time to get to Rayners South of I-70 as it does to go North of I-70 to get to Thunder Valley. If you look up a Wild Game Preserve called <span style="font-weight: bold">The Wilds</span> it's not very far from that. The directions are on his Website. Is out in the country on some secondary roads but well worth the trip to visit.

Type in this address on Google Map or Map Quest and it'll get you there.

Rayners may as well have it's own zip code. I can't remember the acreage Tom said he had, but the driveway went on for so long I contemplated turning around cuz I thought I was lost. Thankfully, once you get off the freeway(at least on my route) there are a number of helpful signs that point you in the right direction.

8:30 is a pretty early arrival but I'll plan accordingly. Keep us posted on a warm up day in the next couple weeks.

Also, if any of yall know of some land for sale down that way, shoot me a PM. A 45 min drive to Ranyers and TVP would be excellent.

Not much in the way of good weather ahead of us between now and the match. Tom is having his first action pistol match the third Sunday of February so that narrows down available time to use the range. My son and myself are heading down tomorrow (Tues 1/28) to try and get some settings for his rifle with the peep sights on it. Probably get there around 10 and be there till early afternoon. Gonna be soggy but got to take the day when it presents itself.

Be glad to have others join us, know it's short notice but wanted to see what the weather looked like first.

Hard to believe it snuck up on us that quickly. I didn't even get down there a single time over the winter break. I'll be there for the pistol match this weekend, but it doesn't look like the rifle match will work out for me. Maybe Saturday, but we'll see what happens.

Picked up the rifle yesterday, loaded 50 rounds last night and sighted in and chrono'd today. Not expecting much but hope to get there tomorrow if I get up early enough!

I did essentially the same thing with a new load that I zeroed, didn't chrono and just just showed up and let it rip. Got away with a 210 using the noodle barrel. You should be just fine.

Had a great time as always yesterday. Rayners polite as always and due to weather had a couple coarse changes that posed a challenge. Really liked it even though I learned my equipment right now really isn't built for a match.

Also had a great time, Mother Nature sure lied to us though on Sunday. What happened to that upper 30's to 40's temp and calm? Next time, take coveralls no matter what it's forcasting. Think wind played havoc with us, after three years you'd think I'd have learned, don't gamble on small targets in shifty winds. The added bad weather shooting positions were a neat change to give us all a change and learning experience. Tom always has a challenging match and keeps it interesting. Thanks to Tom, Carolyn and everyone else that helped make this match run so well.

Good shooting guys. Looks like cabin fever prevailed over the weather. 63 shooters in these conditions makes me wonder what the numbers are going to be when it's nice out. I hope to make it there in March.
