I've got a 260 remington being built on a Tac30 action with a 24" bartlein medium palma contour barrel. I was wondering if there are any custom ammo manufacturers that i should be taking a look at. I plan on doing some reloading as well, but this will be my first build in 260. I've heard good things about Monolithic Munitions and was going to pick up a few boxes for testing. Are there any other makers out there i should try right off the bat? This is going to be a long range rifle, and i have room to shoot out past 1K yards, mainly groundhogs, and steel/paper.

Any personal experiences? Info is much appreciated.

How about CorBon, Black Hills and Custom reloads of Dallas?

Federal is supposed to be stocking shelves any time now with FGMM 260 with 142smk.

Freedom Munitions

Southwest Ammo

Copper Creek Ammo

Dallas Reloads

There are more but those are off the top of my head.

Awesome. Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I too am waiting on the SMK's. Midway said April on availability.

If you will be reloading later, get yours made with Lapua brass then you will be able to use it for reloading. It's worth it, and not that much more than RP from SW Ammo. I don't know about the others.

The Federal GM260M factory ammo shoots very well. I use it to shoot control groups with all new .260s I build. This is an average target for one rifle. 3 consecutive 3-shot groups on one target will usually tell me that I have a healthy rifle getting ready to ship. The Federal load seems to be very consistent.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to call around today and see what's in stock. Another 6-8 weeks and this bad boy should be here, ready to shoot!

C'mon Terry, don't give us that 3x3 target shit.

Lets see a 5x5!

;-)

Hey, at least I'm sending real world targets out with 3 consecutive groups shot back to back on each rifle I build! I'm not picking and choosing what groups to send with the rifles.

I'm also not working up the best load for each rifle. I just want to make sure I have a healthy rifle with plenty of potential going out the door. The average for the typical target I posted was 0.324" and that's a real C2C measurement. I have an electronic file folder for each rifle and this type of target and measurement are valuable for me to document what I am putting out compared to a year ago, 10 years ago or 20 years ago.

I feel pretty confident that I can duplicate the test groups, on demand with each rifle in front of a customer if I ever need to. Actually, I just noticed that my son Luke fired the target that was posted above.

I absolutely agree that statistically, 5 shot groups are superior.

Holy crap, I think I just detoured this thread. Sorry Reaper.
Thank you...... Carry on.....Nothing to see here......Move along....... :)

Only match ammo I've found in stock worth a damn if you don't plan to reload is southwest ammo. But $50 for a box if 20? Holy hell!. I know is lapua brass, but another buck fiddy for one of the less desirable, cheaper bullets, some powder and a primer? Ouch.. I have a 260 build coming in a month or so and already have the reloading components, but was hoping to find some affordable match ammo to prove the rifle before i start with my witches brews.
