Looking for a Target 22

I am looking to purchase a .22 lr target rifle. I would prefer with iron sight but with the ability to mount a scope. I though I had found a nice setup with the Kimber Model 82 at ODCMP.com, but they are single shots. I would prefer a magazine rifle. I have found a couple of old rifles on gunbroker but I am a little weary of buying a rifle sight unseen except pictures and worry about the accuracy of these old rifles.

I am trying to keep the budget within 300s for the rifle unless it is exceptional like the Kimber 82.
Thanks

Budget limit 400. Sorry I wasn't clear.

You are going to be very hard pressed to find a quality rimfire target rifle with sights for $400 or less. A plinker yes, target rifle not likely.

If you want to use irons in the CZ line you would want a CZ 452 Lux, Ultra lux, or Military trainer. Those models have 26" barrels to yield a longer sight radius for usings irons. Another option would be a Winchester 75T. These were the more econimical version of the if the Winchester 52 series of target rifles.

everyone has their preference, but mine is a Ruger 10/22. they are incredibly reliable, and respectably accurate (more so with a target barrel/bull barrel). you can find them brand new for $225 which leaves plenty of money for extra mags, ammo, and scope if you want. here is a picture of mine, although its not a great picture. i bought a standard 10/22 for the price above and i built it how it sits now. but you can find the target tactical model which is basically the same for about 400 and its the best way to go.

If your budget is 400.00 try and find a 10/22 with a target barrel. I have a 10/22 tactical, 16" heavy bull barrel and man does it shoot well. One problem is they say not to shoot stingers in it. Great gun for under 400.00

Look into a Savage FV-SR for around $250, and get either a SWFA 12x for $299 or a cheaper Burris/Bushnell fixed 10x and you will be sitting pretty good. After you save a little more, you can upgrade the stock to a Boyds Tacticool for $120 ish and you will have a darn nice rig and accurate ta-boot.

DT

CZ452 Varmit. Generally around $400-450. Worth every penny. Get a Tacticool stock from Boyd's and you're set.

Check the used guns on rimfire sites like rimfirecentral.com

Gents I believe I have decide to try and find a deal on a Winchester 52 or buy a brand new Savage FVT and change the stock.

A 52 will be harder to scope without decreasing the value. You would need to find a Ken Viani mount to install a modern scope. The 52 repro's are d&ted and there are a few heavey barrel versions. They are accurate but are sporters for the most part. You would have to find a 52C for a good target rifle, but these are well over your budget as are the repros. Like everyone has said, target rifles are not cheap. The 452's, 10-22's and Savage heavey barrels will shoot well. There is also the Anschutz line or target rifles. But again, you have to pay the price for accuracy

Thanks N64. This will be a up hill battle.

I here greatly mixed reviews on the Kimbers 82g. If they were more reliable and were not single shots I'd be all over one.

Maybe I should hold out for a decent priced 52c. Or the Savage probly would work.....

I'd go with the CZ 455 and find an inexpensive scope for the interim. It's only just outside your price range, is new-maning parts are easy to find, extremely accurate. Nothing wrong with the Savage MII line but the CZ is a significantly better rifle.

52's are very accurate and great for target just too heavy if wanting to carry (for me anyways). I like my hammer forged 10/22 though also. Shot a Browning T-bolt and it was very accurate but a little more $$.

This target was shot with my Anschutz 1411. My 52C will do the same. This is 50' indoors.
Outside at 50 yrds, it opens up a little more but stays under 1/4". At 100 yrds, it will stay under 1/2"
If I read the wind correctly

The 52's are a great choice, but not exactly inexpensive nor decreasing in cost. A Win 52 and a Savage FVT are not even in the same ballpark for fit, finish, nor accuray potential. If you can't procure a Win 52C in your price range I'd strongly suggest a CZ455. The beauty of the 455, aside from all the good things CZ already brings to the table, is the ability to upgrade the barrel later on to a high end target barrel like a Lija. With a quality aftermarket target barrel you are getting pretty close accuracy wise to an Anshutz 64 and Win 52 without the initial up front cost.

These groups are good!
Got to love these Anschutz! Thinking of it, I never shot my Anschutz indoors but outside, she can shoot like this, if I do my part and stay focused (mea culpa). I have a MPR 64 and it is a great training rifle, triggers are amazing and overall quality checks.
One of my shooting buds bought the same rifle last week and has same results.
They are mo'money than the CZ, Savage and the 52 (all good rifles btw) but very rewarding once you pulled the trigger; I just saved longer.
Good shooting.

I was hoping to have something with iron sights already which CZ don't. But the CZ 455 looks very interesting. I understand the for and finish of the Savage is sub par compared to the CZ. I guess y'all are referring to the action and the stock. But how does the trigger compare? From my understand the CZ gets the nod for the interchangeable barrel.

Maybe I have just answered my question. Now to compare the 52 with the CZ.

52 is a great rifle but finding one in your price range will be difficult.

you could always get target sights for the 455...just depends on how much you want to spend.

maybe go with this, then get a block installed on the front
