Gunsmithing Heat Tolerant Stencils To For Cerakote

I am buying and cerakoting a gun as a gift for a fellow Marine who is retiring next month. I want to do one color of cerakote, quick cure it, then put stencils over the top and put the EGA, his name, and service dates in another color. I am not the one doing the cerakote.

I am trying to find someone who makes custom, heat tolerant stencils. I shot an IM to a gentlemen in a similar thread but it doesn't appear that he is responding. I DO NOT have the artistic ability to cut the stencils myself. I need to have the stencils in hand within around two weeks to allow me time to complete the gun by 01 April (friend's terminal leave date). Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Maybe find someone that does vinyl graphics (think stickers), but have them make the stickers from roofing tape(?). I haven't got a clue, just throwing a wild a$$ thought out there...

Two weeks might be kinda tight for time, as I'm sure he's a busy guy.

As far as stencils go, there is heat tollerant and then there is HEAT tollerant. The most common material used is the yellow 4mil Avery and its supposedly good to 200 degrees. I say supposedly, since even if run at lower than 200 degree temps it a bitch to get the stuff off after it cools.

After about a years worth of serching and testing I found several good materials that are good to 400 degrees (no, I dont cure at that temp) and it comes right off with no residue.

Send me a PM and if what you need is'nt too complicated (wont take a lot of time in Adobe Illutrator) I'll cut the stencils for you at no charge.

Cant you just Cerakote the one color let that air dry a little lay a stencil on and spray the next colors air dry again so they dont run then pull the stencils off carefully then bake it with out the stencils? Oh and Awesome gift!!

Marine PMI- Was kind of working along that line but figured there were likely some pros on hand who have/are doing so. That is my option B. S/F Brother!!!!

Komishe- I did a pretty thorough search and found a guy up in NY who posted a few years back saying he could do it. I sent him a PM but got no response. He is likely out burrying his firearms and magazines in his backyard and too busy to respond.

Brenneman- I don't "think" you can do it as you have said. If it were regular paint, yes. Yet everything I have read indicates that cerakote is kind of perticular in its ability to stick to itself and there are also issues with air dry on baked on (or perhaps reverse that). The go to method appears to be to apply one coat, quick bake (wrong term) then apply the next coat, then do the full bake. I just might have to start doing this stuff myself. I hate to waste all this brain space I am now tying up!!!.

They make a bunch of cool camo stencils, and are available in the yellow heat resistant style. I would imagine they could cut you a custom stencil

Haha I know what you mean man! I am kind of in the boat you are and just thought I would use all bake on stuff and let it set up enough to apply stencils-spray-remove until I have it all sprayed then throw it in the oven but now Im second guesing my idea lol
