Hello all, I picked up my Savage Mark II BV today. I am having difficulty installing the bolt. I guess I am having difficulty with the orientation of the bolt handle and the front of the bolt. Any assistance would be appreciated it. Thank you very much.

Tim

On mine, it has to be on "Fire" because I have to be able to pull the trigger fully to the rear to remove the bolt.

With the rifle optic side facing the ceiling ("normal" orientation), the serial-numbered side of the bolt (flat side) should be down, facing the floor. Bolt handle should be around 2:30 clock position, almost parallel to the floor.

While pulling the trigger fully rearward, insert the bolt. Release trigger.

If Im thinking back to my MKII correctly, the front of the bolt kinda lines itself up if you got it close. The bolt handle has to line up with the slot in the receiver.

The safety has to be "off", so youcan pull the trigger and drop the sear.

Assuming it has the accutrigger?

Fellas,

I appreciate the help. Turning the serial-number side of the bolt downward did the trick. If I can trouble you once more, there is a small plastic bag with a tiny tool of some sort. It is less than an inch long with a yellow knob and 2 prongs on the end. What is this? Thanks again.

How about reading the manual? Specifically page 7 & 14.

If it didn't come with one then download it. I don't even own a Savage and it took all of 2 minutes to find instructions on installing the bolt and instructions for using the supplied tool for the accutrigger.

This is your first rifle. Get to know it.

I strongly suggest you get to a range and find some competent shooters to run through some basics.

Thanks for your input. I did read the instructions regarding bolt installation. I did not understand the diagram. I plan on taking the NRA First Steps Rifle course. As far as the Accu-Trigger tool, I had no idea what I was looking at, so I asked. I do plan on getting to know my rifle but this is where I am right now.

Tim, you caught me before my coffee. I'm very glad to have you as a new shooter... we need more.

My points earlier were valid but could've been expressed better. I was not sure that you had a manual.

I agree with Travis above... good on you for searchingt instruction. I'll again reiterate my comment of finding the "good" shooters at your range and get to know them. You'll develop your own shooting personality eventually and grow more every time out, but those guys will steer you in the right direction starting out.

Thanks, I will make it a point to introduce myself to the good shooters.

I have learned some on the various forums. I figured it was time to dive in. After getting comfortable with the 22, I will step up to a .308.

For now, I will learn and have fun. I do appreciate the guidance.

Late bloomer, huh? If you make it up into huntingdon county and want to shoot a little, let me know.
