I am taking a hard look at this scope for my next glass. One thing concerns me is the short distance between the adjustment knobs and the ocular. Evidently this is not a deal breaker as many of you have the scope, but does it cause any difficulty with mounting, eye relief, etc.?

If you have one of these, would you buy it again?

I could never get the 3-18 x 42 back far enough on my bolt guns to avoid stretching my neck to get into the scope-- it was a combination of limited mounting options because of the tube/turret configuration and also the somewhat short eye relief at higher magnification. On my AR's it was no problem because there was plenty of rail.

The IOR 3.5-18 x 50 on the other hand is a much better scope IMO; much better eye relief than the 3-18x42 and the tube/turret configuration is more "normal" so mounting it in a comfortable position was easy.

I've got a 3-18x42 on one of my bolt guns. That gun is in an AICS. I had to remove all the butt spacers to allow me to mount the rifle. I've got the scope back as far as it will go in the rings.

I've been placing the butt pad on my collar bone. If I place it under my collar bone then I need to use a butt spacer.

If I was to do it over again I would try the 3.5-18x50. It has a little more space between the turret housing and the ocular. I sure like the Extreme 1 reticle on the 3-18 though.

Just got the 3.5-18x50 Milrad and was concerned about the mounting on my sons Rem 700AAC, I noticed the space limitation like you are talking about. I believe EGW has an extended rail to the rear for such cases as this? Can't believe the 3-18 has a shorter length between the turret and occular, must be real short. I can't believe the clarity of this scope (German Schott glass) and would recommend it to anybody. Tomorrow will the first break in period for my sons new toy. If you purchase one look into Scott at Liberty Optics I can't thank him enough!

No problems with the 3.5-18x50. If your set on the 3-18x42 EGW does make an extended base that solves the mounting problem on a Remington 700, but not sure about other model guns. Shouldn't be a problem on a flat top AR. I have owned both and IMO the 3.5-18x50 is the way to go for a bolt action and 3-18x42 is perfect for a flat top long range AR platform.

I have one of the 42s, mounted on a Badger Ord. base, on a Win. M70, no problems with mounting or eye relief, but it is back about as far as it can go.
