I bought a Viper PST 4-16, but having second thoughts that I should have bought the 6-24 or a Leupold since they are getting close in price. For a 308 bolt action, 1000 yard shooting. I know the 16 is more than enough magnification for those shots, but im reading the 6-24 is more clear at the higher magnifications.

Thoughts? Havent decided if im gonna sell this, or just try it out first.

I can't offer a comparison but I have the 6-24 PST FFP and it rocks at 1000 yards! Tracks very true and is rock solid. The reticle is easy to see at all magnifications also I highly suggest the FFP version as it makes spotting and correcting shots very easy no matter what power setting.

If you need FFP, the vortex or the Bushnell tactical.

If not, if 1,000yd 308 is say...f/tr, buy a sightron SIII 8-32x56, for SFP optics in this neighborhood, the sightron takes the cake.

Hmm I will have to look into that one. I dont need FFP as I dont use any of the reticules for ranging, I know all the distances. 75 more posts to go and I can put it up for sale :) Im gonna check SWFA for that sightron as well

I'd go for the Vortex PST 6-24
Still think its a great scope for the money. I have two and both are still performing great.

FWIW I would go with the Leupold. 16x does work at 1k yards, however I would much prefer my 22x at that distance. I also have a couple Mark 4 6.5-20x scopes that are phenomenal at up to 1k.

A few of my friends were raving about the Vortex so I thought id give them a try. My 338 Lapua has a NF 5.5-22x56 and I hit 1,000 meters (not yards) all day long with it at about 16-18x, but the 308 savage is my plinking gun and I jumped on the 4-16x too quick without thinking about it because of the cost. Prior to the NF, ive only had Leupold and Zeiss, but I figured id give Vortex a shot. The glass looks very clear even at full magnification, but ive just read too much on here how the 6-24 is even better especially at high magnification so I thought id at least give it a shot before going to the more expensive Leupold, plus the wait from them on the LEO program can be lengthy if its not on the shelf!

If anyone on here bites on the Vortex I think im gonna first try the 6-24x, and if I dont like that one, then its back to Leupold or watch for a silly deal on a SWFA HD 5-20x or older NF.

I shoot north miller road out in the desert man and we were messing around with my 700 at 800 yds and I personally prefer the less power. I've had my pst on 18x to pick out a tire to shoot and backed it down to 12x.
Added: stick with vortex. If you don't think the pst is enuff. Go for the razor. It's got twice the adjustments.

For the small difference in price, I went with the Vortex PST 6-24 versus the 4-16.

Sport Optics will give you a great deal if you mention that you are a Snipers Hide member. And very nice people to deal with.

They had the MOA/MOA PST 6-24 FFP in stock this past week. The Mil/Mil version is backorderable. Not sure about the SFP versions.

We shoot just northeast of scottsdale and have steel set up all the way out to 2,000 meters, I think I might just go try this one out today and see how it does, and it wasnt really the magnification im worried about because I currently shoot 800 meters with a 1-4x on my Sig 716, but ive just been reading the 6-24 is actually a better scope and only a bit more money.

I find it hard to understand why the 4-16 PST would be inferior to the 6-24 PST where brightness or clarity are concerned. I've got a 6-24x50 PST sfp, and am very pleased with it, though I've also got several SIII 6-24x50s, and am convinced that Sightron's glass is a little better at resolving objects in the shadows. What I'd really like to see is a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 with knobs, zero stop, and reticle like the Vortex PST. Lacking that, I'll just keep on shooting the LRMOA SIIIs I've got, and enjoying the PST on the 223 AI.

No clue on why, im just going by what I read, and you KNOW the internet is never wrong! I actually saw quite a few of those references on here though... I looked at both inside Sportsmans, but they all look the same indoors to me. Im gonna take it out in an hour and see how it does, maybe it will be fine and im just having buyers remorse. My friend told me the same about Sightron, maybe I will try them in the future too, but I figured id give Vortex a shot. I really am happy with SWFA as a company so id like to try one of their HD scopes as well since im thinking about ordering their 1-6 HD for my Sig, hoping they do another package deal with the 5-20 and 1-6!

I had the pst 6-24 ffp. I did think it was a very good scope for the money. I could not tell the difference between mine and my buddies mark 4

I have both Vortex 4-16 & 6-24. For the LR stuff the 6-24 PST is perfect. The 4-16 rides on the hunter. I have a lot of Vortex and never let down. Stick with them.

The vortex PST i had was a turd and long gone ,
go with leupold or sightron.

Well I broke down and shot the rifle with the Vortex on it... I must say im pretty impressed with that scope and at 1,000 meters (not yards) it was plenty clear to see a 8x12 inch steel target and hit it numerous times with .308. The guys I was with were so impressed by it, one of them bought it, so looks like I will be ordering the 6-24x version today :)
