Update!
Received my TBAC 30P1 and took my LTR to a local gunsmith to have the muzzle threaded for the can.
He pulled the barrel and what a surprise we/I got.
The receiver and barrel threads were a mess!
Rust was taking hold and massively evident. It looked like the gun had been drenched and put away wet. This rifle has never been out in the rain. The 'smith cleaned it all up with a thread file and steel wool and some anti-seize paste before he screwed the barrel back on.
I pondered where it might have come from and my cleaning regimen. I checked all the products I've used to clean and found only one that has water as a component. Yep, Wipe-out. "Contains Butylcellosolve, Alcohols, and water."
The label says "Wipe-out contains a powerful anti-corrosive that prevents rust." Surely so. But in my case, it seems the only reasonable conclusion, absent exposure to rain, that it is the source of the rust. In all the cases involving it's use in barrel cleaning, I've never experienced a rusty bore. I am impressed with how it removes carbon and copper. but I've always run a Kroil soaked patch down the bore after using Wipeout. Maybe the solution is to run some Kroil into the barrel tenon/receiver threads as well
I'm considering pulling the other barrels that have been exposed to Wipe-out to see if the same condition exists in those receiver / barrel junctions. I Like Wipe-out, but I'll add a dose of Kroil to the receiver/barrel tenon from the chamber side and stand the rifle muzzle down to expel any water from now on. I'm not "done" with Wipe-out, just adding a step to my cleaning regimen.
This thread is not a condemnation of the product, just an advisory of my experience and a potential solution to prevent future occurrences.
