Well, I have had my eye on these since they came out. They look cool as hell/functional as hell. I went to Gunsite for an ELR class in October, and the lead instructor for the class, Cory Trapp, had an Ashbury ASW there (basically the real deal, like a real AX vs an AX chassis with a 700 in it.) Having interest in the system, he was courteous enough to let me take it for a test drive, and I really really enjoyed it. I found it VERY comfortable.

This will be for my TRG-42. And I should clarify that it is pure luxury- the Sako stock, after trying different spacers/etc, fits me like a glove. So really my motivations are as follows:

1: I like the idea of adding a bit of weight. The TRG is a pretty light system to be shooting a lot of 300 grain projectiles in a range session.
2: I want/need the folder. The rifle is too long to comfortably carry in an Eberlestock Gunslinger, too long to comfortably get in and out of my safe, and too long to fit in an Eagle drag bag. The Sako folder is nice but the Sako rear folding half costs MORE than a whole Ashbury chassis.
3: Quick adjustments. I know a lot of people like to "set it and forget it," but I have QA features on my AX and I have found them to be quite handy. I shoot in Maine with some huge temperature swings over the course of the year and the layers change length of pull. Also, different field shooting positions at some times benefit from mild tweaks to LOP and cheek height.
4: Buttspike option. I did not try the Ashbury spike, but I have one on my AX and I LOVE IT. It allows me to only carry a small bag, so I use the spike for gross elevation adjustments and a small squeeze of the bag for minute adjustments. The Sako rear section also has a spike, but again, its almost $3k.
5: High speed/low drag factor. I think that it looks cool as hell.

So, I just need to be pushed over the edge a bit. For those with either an ASW or a chassis, please feel free to post up any and all thoughts. And pics are certainly encouraged!

I know P123 didn't like the treatment he got from Ashbury's sales rep before Cory took over, but now I feel that to be a non issue. I know the chassis is expensive as hell, and while I wish it were cheaper, my opinion is as follows: the Sako TRG-42 is an incredible value in .338's. I believe the action to be at least as good as any other on the market (with the exclusion perhaps of the AW/AX action as it is more rugged,) the trigger is the best available, and the barrels shoot just as well as any aftermarket barrel. Due to the really good price I got on the rifle through EuroOptic, and the fact that I sold my chassis, I have a top notch barreled action, and by the time I put it into the Saber-Forrst, I will have less cash in it than a DTA/AW/MRAD/ etc etc etc, and have a system that leaves nothing on the table.

BM11, I actually had the exact setup your going for. A awhile ago a guy put up his TRG-42 in a full MOD 1 stock. I nabbed it. In my opinion...you have to buy the full mod 1. If you go with the mod 0, the fore end of the stock wiggles around and bends when you put weight into it. Almost to the point depending on your barrel contour of touching the barrel. Now with the mod 1 thats not really a issue. You've got the top rail, helping lock it up to give it that stiffness. The problem in a nut shell comes from the lockup of the forend to the chassis action of the stock.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I am going for the full Mod 1. I want all of the feature that the Mod 1 has to offer over the Mod 0: the folder, the quick adjust setup, and the monolithic rail (40 moa would be the one for me.)

I saw yours and really should have snapped it up back then.

I will also say this.....that was one of the BEST Balanced stocks I've ever had. And thats with a 27" barrel if I remember correctly for a 338lm.....was very easy to do non prone shots with it.

Ashbury has actually modified the carbon fiber fore end and it does not flex nearly the same as the older versions.

Also they now have a lot of new fore ends for the chassis to include an aluminum one that is a lot less money.

At SHOT there were several new models announced and they all work together based off the same center sections. The new chassis start under $1000 and can be upgraded to a Full Mod 1 over time.

They are definitely moving the Saber Forrst in a new direction for them. When I get off my iPad I can post some pictures from Shot

Would be appreciated, thanks. I did see the skeletonized aluminum, it was pretty cool.

I have the full MOD1 stock from Ashbury. I had GAP do a blueprinted Rem 700 with PTG bolt. Its a 22" barrel and a 260 caliber. I really love the chassis, the adjustability is what sold me on it.
The one drawback to them is the weight. Mine is absurdly heavy, easily over 20 pounds dressed out.

Get a picture up god damn it! I see the bitch about the weight on a 308, but see it as a benefit on an ELR rig.

Mailed my deposit in today for a Mod 1 chassis, FDE, 40 moa rail.

Love the Nordic Gray! How do you like the monopod? I didn't order one YET.

Mine will be going together this coming week. I coated my barreled action to match with air cure Alumahyde, it has been hanging in my furnace room all week curing. I drop it and the chassis off to a buddy for fitting tomorrow, should have it back next weekend. I'd do it myself, but he (jbell here on the hide) is more adept and less likely to take a sawzall to it in frustration after a number of alcoholic beverages.

Here is how it looks so far!
