I have a custom built Remy 700 currently sitting in a McMillen stock that was recently chopped down to a 20 inch gun and I'm looking to sort of update it.

I want the stock that Remington uses on the 700USR.

as best as I can figure out it appears to be the HS Precision PST007 in black

but that says it doesn't work for 20" guns. Not really sure what the difference would be but it leads me to think maybe it's this one (that's what the stats say anyway)

But the butt end looks different, unless that rubber piece just comes off.
So can anybody tell me what stock I need for this lil guy? It's done with a USMC contract Schneider barrel, so it's a bit heavier contour than std remingtons. #7 if memory serves me

Just gotta figure out what I need to do here to build myself a nice urban type survival/hunting/sniper rifle. This is going to be for a look too as I'm thinking about using it as kind of a demo thing for a little side job. I was a gunsmith school graduate way back in 05 and thinking about getting back into it on a very small scale. Hoping you guys can help me figure out what eludes me.

That's pretty much the last piece i need

Looks like the PST007 to me. Where did you see that it isn't compatible with 20" guns? I don't see why it would make a difference. Also, if you have to open up the barrel channel for a heavier contour, sandpaper and a deepwall socket can make quick work of that.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your motivation from going from a McMillan to an HS-Precision? Is the McM a sporter style or something?

I thought PST007 as well but this is on the stockys site where I was gonna order it from
Cut for extra heavy (up to .950" muzzle diameter) 24"-30" barrels as-is, may be opened-up to 1.250" bulls if necessary. (See the PST093/095 for 20" barrels.) Recoil lug to forend 12.25"
Maybe I'm reading it wrong though I don't know.

I can't see how it would make a difference either but they felt the need to put it in the description.

I see. I don't know why they put that in, but you should be fine. There's nothing about a stock that dictates how long a barrel needs to be (except maybe the forend length, but that won't be a problem). Maybe someone else can say otherwise.

HS Precision stocks only have two opinions I have heard and they either love them or hate them; each with a distinctive passion. I personally don't like the palm swell on the HS Precision. It has never felt as comfortable as a Manners T4/2 or McMillan A5. It is all about comfort.

Hmmmm...not sure this is the right answer but I had a heavy contour barrel in a HS Precision stock. I used a dowel and sandpaper and opened the channel up about .25 of an inch around the barrel. I then took a thin layer of epoxy and filled/sealed the channel. Sanded it smooth again and then taped it off and painted it with some alumahyde ii. It turned out really well and I never had any issues with it. It is an easy project that takes some patients and attention to detail. After opening the channel up that much I had the rifle skim bedded. Is this case there was no difference in accuracy but I felt better.
