I currently have the 190XPROB 3 section ALUMINUM tripod and was looking at moving to a carbon fiber version. The difference is that Monfrotto offers a 4 section tripod which has the same height extended for both the 3 and 4 section but closed length is 3" shorter for the 4 section. In the reality that every pound counts and packability matters. Does anybody have any experience with both of these or even just the 4 section tripod alone?

My concern after reviewing these are that the leg sections become so small in diameter for the last leg segments on the 4 that it may introduce more flex than if I stuck with 3 section tripods. Is it worth the length savings?

I have a lot of experience with Manfrotto tripods. (shooting, observing, photography)
The last section on the 4 section tripod is worthless. The only advantage with the 4 section is that it folds up to a smaller package when transporting the tripod. If you aren’t planning on using the tripod with legs fully extended, it could be a good option.
The 4th section on the carbon fiber models flex a lot.
I personally use the 3 section tripods and prefer aluminum legs. 190XPROB and 055XPROB

I'm not a fan of the 4 section system, but CF is WAY better than Al. Lighter, quieter and vibration damping, my Al version is now a loaner during classes.
