I have a 1 in 8 twist Bartlein Rem. Var. contour barrel and a Dave Kiff .260 Tactical Match .294 NK reamer on the way. The rifle will be used for long range target shooting as well as deer hunting. Any suggestions on barrel length? I was thinking 26 in?????

Preferably 26"....and I would not go below 24".

I've humped 26" rifles around whilst hunting. It sucks. Hardly EVER get to reach out and make use of those extra 4" of barrel.

Deer sniping on crop damage tags in the summer - different story.

A 22" 260 is a damn fine tool. For ultimate ballistics, obviously 26 is better. But 30" is better yet. Where do you draw the line?

Consider well what you need the rifle to do. Perhaps a local used Savage 110 in 270 in addition to a 260 target rifle would be a better way to go?

30" you'll stretch that rifle out to 1 mile and you'll get superb accuracy out to 1000 yards. My custom savage w/ 30" is more accurate than the Custom Stiller on AICS from 100y to 1 mile. The 30" is a lot heavier of course, it will wear you down if you do a lot of hiking when you hunt.

would start eval @ 26 then shorten or lengthen depending on needs. (how much humping and hunting compared to static shooting positions.)

I have a 260 tikka with 20" barrel. no issues at all.
