After many years of looking I got a Colt Woodsman 6 in bbl. a while back.
I do not have the ability to post pictures but am working on it.
It was in the box and 95%+ some neat tools and all of the original stuff. Book but no target.
It took some cleaning and a trip to buy a "new" magazine but now it runs good. Shot it today. Nice shooter. Accurate more so than me.
Found a good collector that helped me with the mag. Good person. He will help others and has a small stash of Colt parts.
I have always wanted one since the first time I shot one , about 10 or 11. belonged to my Grandfathers friend.
It took 55+ years before I could afford one and now I am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. Regards, FM

Re: Colt Woodsman new to me.

Nice, one of my favorites. What model is it? Pre Woodsman, Woodsman, Woodsman 2nd model, Woodsman 3rd model??
Match Target, Target, sport model?
THey are all nice.

Re: Colt Woodsman new to me.

It is a 2nd. series. S model built in 1949 ao it is newer than me by a year or so.
Has all of the things as it came out of it's box. Coltwood grips and the backstrap addition too.
Fun to shoot. Accuracy is right on. Shoots better than me. Aim i
t at something and hold still and it will fall over. Regards, FM
Standard 6 in tapered bbl. great trigger, nice. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!

Re: Colt Woodsman new to me.

Mike,
The second models are in many ways the nicest. They have all the features and great steel. The thirds were just a cheapened model IMO. Love those second model grips. BTW there were 3 sizes of grip extenders. S, M, and L. Most guns just came with the M. I do not really know where the other sizes were procured. Special order?? Some of the ones like you have have the thumb rest in the left grip, others do not. The MT's had it on all I have seen.
Enjoy your new shooter.

Re: Colt Woodsman new to me.

Mine does have the thumb rest and I would imagine the M size grip thingee. What ever came in the box.
My squaw is the 22 pistol expert in my house and I now feel confident to turn it over to her for a run at the range.
I have taken it several times so it is her turn. It runs good.
It does run Fed bulk pack well.

One of my close friends that passed away almost 4 years ago had one his father left him. We shot it from a stack of sand filled shot bags at 50 yards and it would burn them in. That's been 30 years ago since I shot it. But it was a very good pistol. He was going to shoot NRA Pistol with it. His father bought it new back in the 1960s. Probably in the very early 60s. Back then Remington Blue Tag was THE ammo for 22 match anything.
