I need some advice before I order some rings for my S&B.

I'm running a R700 with a Badger 20moa base. Barrel contour is a Remington Varmint.

Scope is a S&B 5-25x56 PMII

What height rings do I need. I don't think the barrel contour will matter but I don't want the adjustment bell to bottom out on the base. Any advice before I buy some?

GAP sent me 1.0" Badger rings with my Crusador & S & B PMII 5-25 x 56. About as low as you can go. As far as the scope bell hitting the base, that pretty much depends on how far back you mount the scope. Mine is set up for prone with no problems.

I'm not so much worried about the magnification bell but the central turret bell on the bottom of the scope bottoming out on the rail above the ejection port

I had to go to 1.125" rings to give the cap clearance at the front. You won't bottom out on the turret bell with 1" rings. In my case I'm using Tenebraux kill flashes with their cap which required the little extra height otherwise 1" would have been perfect.

Thanks Layton, what LA caliber is that in your picture? I'm doing a 284 for the rifle in question on a R700 Long Action.

Did the Butler Creek caps still work with the 1"?

That's a 338LM with a #9 Bartlein. 20MOA Near base.

The Butlers would have worked fine with 1" height rings. Hope this helps.

Does any one know how to measure the scope height for balistics software not sure if they are asking for the height of the rings or the center of the scope in relation to the bore....I'm using an app called strelok and they ask for the scope height ....

Take a ruler and measure from center-line of the bore to the center-line of the scope. Real simple. Open your bolt and measure from center to center.

If I have a 20 moa rail do I take the measurement from the bell end ????

1" height is what you need. I am running the same except for a heavier contour barrel and 1" works fine.

Here's a pic of the objective and a M24/40 contour barrel.
