Is the mcrees the way to go Help

Re: Is the mcrees the way to go Help

I like Mcrees stocks but I ordered one for a Mcmillan single shot 50BMG and after 8 months, nothing. Scott kept telling me something different every time I called. So I cancelled an got a XLR and it took 11 weeks.

One thing that I find curious is that I see claims that after removing and reinstalling the action it will return to zero.

Being as the barrel and the optic are mounted to the receiver, I don't see how it could not "return" to zero, since it never "leaves" zero.

My guess is that it has to do with the harmonics, how the action flexes a little (maybe 50 millionths to a tenthousandth) from the torque, surface area contact, etc.

Re: Is the mcrees the way to go Help

Being as bedding an action in a conventional stock improves the accuracy, I suspect you're right about the effect varying fits in different chassis would have on POI. Thanks for the perspective.

Frap, where ya at in PA?

Betcha got plenty of places to shoot out yer way.
It's disturbingly locked down here in SE PA... I light a firecracker on the 4th of July and I got the cops here in 15 minutes.

Re: Is the mcrees the way to go Help

I am still waiting on the 700 SPS I ordered to drop in mine.

In the meantime I moved my buddy's barreled action onto my McRee and loaned him the S&B PMII for a morning at the range.

It was painfully cold (17° F) but Kevin shot the best group I've seen so far out of his 700, 5 shots @ 100 yards just under 1 MOA.

Kevin is squirreling away some $$$ now for a McRee.

What kinda cheek pad is that? I have a Mcrees and love everything but I don't enjoy the cold aluminum on my face. Not thrilled about the stock pack or mole skin.

Re: Is the mcrees the way to go Help

Curious for those who shoot an all aluminum stock in sub zero temps... Like it, love it, hate it? I would think it would be extra cold while holding onto it.

Mcree's Precision sells a stock pack/cheek pad made by Tactical Taylor. I think it's about $30 or so.

With the stock pack, it's not bad at all. You're gripping a plastic AR-15 grip, so you lose very little heat. I've shot it in 5 degree weather before without gloves. I do lose the feeling in my hands, but it doesn't feel like that process is being accelerated with the chassis.

I see alot of other chassis manufacturers are making adapters for the use of a Magpul PRS stocks. Is there a adapter for the Mcrees?

I am trying to decide between going with their folding stock or doing the carbine folder with the PRS. I shoot a PRS on an LMT MWS so I am familiar with its adjustments(and strengths and weakness's). Does it give any advantage over the McRee folding stock or does the McRee stock have any advantages of the PRS stock? I think price wise you are probably about even when its all said and done.

Think of the torque being applied to the action screws that tie the action to the stock. If the stock is not concentric, or stiff enough to have a repeatable torque value, the force applied the the action will be different.

Just got my mcree stock in the mail today and it's awesome. Od green for my 300wm.

Here's my new Mcree stock. I just mounted it up yesterday and it's awesome. Barrel has come back off for cerakote. I'm glad I went with this. It's also not nearly as heavy as I was expecting.

This looks like a great deal at $100 off, but sale is over so I might have to wait til its back on.

Wondering if it can take the same AI magazines as the CDI bottom metal?

Arrived yesterday.
My boy deciding which one he wants more! ha

These are amazingly versatile stocks. Every feature on it is adjustable. I def reccommend it to anyone on the fence. Also, get the stock pack he sells. It is custom made for this stock, and can be arranged to be either on the left or right side with the simple adjustment of some velcro straps.

The prs gets in the way of the grip. You could cut it down but it looks odd. The prs also would rotate as it uses the ar receiver to prevent turning. The mcreese is designed for a carbine tube.

I think McRee's Precision makes a very nice chassis system for the price, hard to beat in fact. I currently have two, one for a custom build with a tuned FN/SPR action and one for a custom build with a Stiller's action.

One word of advice from my experience, and others who I know who have had similar experience...be careful when drinking the chassis "cool aid"! And that advice applies to any chassis or chassis like system (i.e. manners mini-chassis, etc). Although most chassis manufacturers advertise "drop in and go" performance, I would advise caution and recommend a light bedding job to ensure best performance that will not disappoint. By the way, several well known top custom rifle builders and tactical shooters who I have talked with echo this recommendation based upon their experience.

My first McRee's chassis, I was lucky and was able to achieve fantastic "drop in and go" performance. My second McRee's chassis, I struggled for several months trying to figure out why a new custom barreled action that I dropped into a McRee's chassis would not deliver better than 1 MOA groups on a good day. After careful inspection (under magnification) I found some slight imperfections in the aluminum surface where the action contacted the chassis. The fix turned out to be a light bedding job that enabled the McRee's chassis build to deliver consistent .25 MOA performance.

I would have sent it back to McRees. On their site, they profess that the action does not need to be bedded in the chassis. Have them make it right.

That being said, I love my McRees Chassis.

The Mcree chassis was a game changer for me. Really watched my groups tighten up from the Rem SPS stock I had before. My only (small) complaint was the contact it had between the recoil pad and chassis when it's folded. I ended up getting a S.O. skid plate for coyote huntin, and it inadvertently fixed the problem though so its an easy fix. The Mcree mags are top-notch too. Highly recommend it. Made in the USA, and Scott Mcree is a badass! He even sent out a christmas card this past year

I wasnt a huge fan of the stock pack either and got some adhesive black neoprene instead. Cheap and provides a great non slip cheek weld.

Game changer!!! just mounted up 260 RWS barreled action into new Mcrees and grouping under .5 MOA.
