Okay I have one good S&B scope and I want to be able to swap it quickly W/O a wrench between my 700 5R .308 and my LMT MRP AR15.
I have a larue mount on my comp m4 and love it so its a no brainer to go larue again however this is where the waters get muddy for me...

will I be best served in this task with a solid one piece qd mount or qd rings? As it sits now in badger 1 " rings on my 700 I find my hs precision stock height to low low even with built up stock pack. Going to a 1.3 or 1.5 " mount will surely make this worse?

However will I need a higher mount on my AR ? Will a cantilever mount help or hinder? And lastly should I be getting a 20 moa (is that 9mil?)mount ? I have a 20 moa base on my 700 and my ar is of course a flat top.

Thanks in advance,

Joel

Is the base on your 700 a one piece base with the correct spacing that would allow you to transfer qd rings from it to the LMT? If so then I would go with the qd rings. As far as the 20moa rings, I would have to ask how far you plan on taking the 16" 308. If you think that you will be pushing the S&B past its limits then I would go with the 20moa qd rings and switch the 700 base to a 0moa rail.

20 MOA rail riser for the AR and a set of 1" height 34mm rings. You can have the 1" height on the bolt gun and with the riser it will mount high enough for the AR. It's how I have mine set up.

Yes 1 piece leupold mk4 rail on 700. Please forgive the newbness and ignorance I am fresh off the turnip truck. what do you mean by correct spacing? As my ar is not a .308 is it possible to zero the scope at say 100m on the 700 using the zerostop, swap it to the ar and have it maintain same 100m zero without adjusting the zerostop or making any come up or down if both rifles have same degree of cant? I appologize my total lack of understanding with both 308 and 5.56 trajectories make this harder than it should be

On a side note what is the max cant that can be run to maximize the travel? I had found a thread a while back that said what the max you should run on the 4-16 single turn was either 30moa? or 40? but it seems to have vanished in thin air.

If i had a 20 or 30 or 40 moa base on my 700 and 0 moa on ar what adjustment/s would I have to make when switching rifles?

Thanks for the pics :) nice setup

Which riser is that lt 101? I really like the idea of using the rings I already have however I would like to be able to swap the scope w/o needing a wrench. What is the overall height above the bore with that setup on your ar? 1 5/8"? Is there enough room to have troy buis folded under the ocular lens?

Crooked Shot,
What I mean by "the spacing being equal" is that sometimes when people use two mounting bases instead of the one solid base the spacing of the rings will not match up to the 1913 rail spacing. IMHO, the best bet would be just to use standard rings with the 20moa base on your 308 and a riser on your AR like ROB01 stated. That would be less complicated than trying to switch your base out on your 308.
Also, the only issue that I see with being able to just use the zero stop when you switch to the AR would be the possible deviation in windage for that specific rifle. You might just be able to figure out the DOPE change for the scope when you swap weapon systems and just adjust (for example: on the 308 the scope is good when the turrets are Zeroed out; and on the AR it is good when the turrets are set at .75mil up and .5mil left). Most of the QD mounts(Larue, ARMS, etc) should give you a 1/4moa or less shift which would make it too easy to get you very close after your original adjustments.

I also recently switched to this mounting setup for one of my gas guns so that I could quickly swap scopes between it and my bolt guns. The Badger 22MOA "AR riser rail" (P/N 249-25) seems to be about the perfect height for this.

Thanks. That's a Badger 22 MOA riser. Why do you have a need to swap without a wrench? Don't over complicate it and try and make this a hard thing. If you needed to do it in the field for some reason where you are carrying both rifles then a small torque wrench like the Borka will do it easily. Alot of people have posted things like this and think they need all these quick changes and find out in the end they don't. Get a solid set up that will mount the scope on both rifles solidly when it's on that rifle. It's not a NASCAR tire change ;)

The scope center line to bore center line is about 3.1" above bore but if you notice the POF rail is a little thicker than most. The Larue one piece mounts will mount the scope too high on your bolt gun. If it was just for an AR then they would work fine but not on a bolt gun.

You might get a BUIS under the rear but it will be tight. If you needed them maybe a 45 degree mount on that set up would be a better option.

Ah I that makes total sense thanks for taking the time to explain :)

Did you opt for qd rings like larue or arms or just use your std ones? Either way how do you find the swap, quick and efortless or irritating? Also dou you have a 20moa rail on your bolt gun and if so how does that 2 moa and caliber difference effect your poa and poi? Thanks for taking the time to respond

Lol Nascar, but but I need high speed low drag like the friendly neighbourhood space shuttle door gunner :D
I appreciate the honesty and insight, you're probably 100% on the money. In all honesty I try to be a minimalist and I hate having to rely on tools cause sure as %¿¡? just when you need it most you wind up loosing or breaking it. That guy Murphy his law can be a real bear.

As for BUIS with 45 degree mount then I cant co-witness through my scope:( ROFL I kid, I kid.
Sorry if you dont appreciate the humor, my wife laughs at my jokes because they are lame not because they are funny.

LOL I appreciate humor. ;)

Sorry if it came across a little rough but just a little tough love to try and save you some headaches down the road.

The only experience that I have with the ARMS mounts are on the Eotech 553 that is on my M4 right now. I have a couple thousand rounds through the rifle and it has not budged at all. The only thing that I would worry about with those mounts is them getting caught on stuff. I don't know how often you will be crawling on the ground with your rifle, but it just looks like you would always have to be checking them. But if you just plan on going from the case to the shooting mat, then ARMS mounts(at least the ones that I have used) are solid.

Thanks for sharing that,

the fact that they dont lock up like the larue isnt as appealing... and youre right the levers look like theyll get hung up on things.

Joel

I just found a guy locally with a set of new ARMS #22-34 MM rings for $200

Anyone have any experience with these or words of wisdom to impart? They look beefy except the throw levers look like they were designed by the keebler elves

Joel

Run, dont walk away.

They are by modern standards, considered garbage. There was a time when they were the only game in town (10+ years ago). Larue bassicaly ran their company into the ground. Now companies are starting to make larue products obsolete.

If you plan to use the QD feature, its a not a matter of if, but when the ARMS levers will break off.

If you NEED a QD mount, then look at bobro. They have the best design as far as QD mounts go. ADM and larue are servicible, but they have their faults as well.

If you dont NEED a QD there a ton of good options and combinations that will work.

ARMS suck.

Bobro makes some nice stuff but there selection is lacking. ADM is in the same boat.

Larue makes solid shit with a good amount of options. If LT ever comes up for air, from building all their rifles, they might have time to improve on their mount design. My only complaint about LT's mounting arms is that some do not come with the lock on them. Having said that, I have never had one come off and you would be hard pressed to break one. Also they have some of the best CS on the planet. Every QD mount I have is LT. I even switched out my ADM mount on my Atlas bipod for a LT.

For the OP: The LT101 w/ ARC M10's, SPHUR, Badger, Seekins, APA or whatever rings. Or two scopes.

There is alot of stuff not on Bobro's website that they do make. SWFA branded mounts are Bobro. The mount on the Trijicon SRS is Bobro. They are Superior mounts to Larue. I would bet that I have owned more in Larue Rails/mounts than just about anyone in this site over the years. They WERE a great design that has become obsolete. I don't need a fucking pen flare mount or other bullshit Larue makes that sells 100 units a year. What I do need is a good 34MM QD mount that doesnt require tools, doesnt tear the rails up, and is easy to take on and off. I also don't hear their owner whining on the internet and attacking anyone who doesnt think he doesnt walk on water. ML is a douchebag.

Larue is also VERY expensive for what you get. You didn't really think all that shit he sends for free, is really free?

You are correct, Bobro is the best!!! I shouldn't have given my opinion knowing that your infinite wisdom is far superior than everyone's else here on SH. As far as ML goes, we all have the ability to be a douche bag at anytime. You have proven this, sir.

I wasn't knocking Bobro or the owner/s. I was simply stating my opinion. I could give two shits about pen flares and dillo dust myself but it's not my company. I wasn't comparing prices either. If you ask me, all the shit we buy is overpriced "for what you get". I'm really not sure what your point is other then "ML is a douchebag". It also seems you have clearly shown your ability to be rude on the internet as well.

The bobro looks like the ultimate design ftw, but will wind up being too high for my bolt gun. To bad theres no modular version with interchangeable or stackable risers, that would be perfect.

My only experience with adm is on my atlas bipod, taking it off makes me feel like a 3 YR old trying to open a bottle of vitamins

It seems like the LT120 is the best answer for me at the moment.
