I just purchased the Steiner 5-25 and the directions have me overly cautious for adjusting the Elevation when I go to zero the scope. I thought I would try and see how it really works before I head to the range but to no avail. I loosen both setscrews half a turn and cannot lift the turret. I loosen them one full turn and cannot lift the turret. Due the issue with actually removing the turret, I'm afraid to loosed the setscrews any more than I already have in fear that when I go to lift the turret, it will pop right off. If you have this scope, can you please explain if you adjusted yours exactly as the instructions describe or if you found something different.

I only loosened the 2 set screws and rotated past what I had to move it (I was high so I rotated the knob to 1 mil). Made the adjustment to zero impact at 100yds. I then loosened the screws again and zeroed the knob. Didn't lift up and it worked for me.

Worked the same way for me. No need to actually "lift" the turret.

That tension is simply suction from within the turret and the elevation rotor. There is a o-ring and some grease inside the housing that creates quite a vacuum inside the turret. I tried unscrewing both both screws fully to 'break the seal', but as the guys have said, you dont need to fully remove it, only need to lift it up over the double turn indicator if you need to reset it.

Well, for some reason I thought I was subscribed to my own thread and would get email notifications when someone replied. Well, I didn't and called Steiner's number to make sure I didn't screw this up. They agreed the instructions were not quite written for this scope. Loosen the screws and just turn the knob, it will NOT lift. I was about ready to stand on the darn thing and pull on them but I decided against it till I confirmed the correct procedure. THANKS!

Buy a $2500-3000 scope and they can't include correct instructions with it?
