I am looking for help selecting a charity for warriors to contribute proceeds from a calendar project I am helping to organize. It will be posted later today in the photo section of the forums (thanks for the support LowLight). We will contribute 50% of the proceeds from this project to the chosen charity. The reason I am asking for input is there are hundreds of foundations and charities out there. The larger ones have the publicity and name recognition to get the donations so we are looking to help one out that does not have the large organization, but has the need and is helping our warriors WITH their needs. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Posts with a name and link are most helpful and if you have any personal knowledge of their work, please post it.

Thanks in advance,

James

Why not just give the money to the warriors directly, instead of giving it to an "charity" middle-man that often keeps upwards of 80% for overhead "costs"?

Good question Binder. If we get some suggestions on individuals or individual warrior's families, we will look at them as well. Thanks for the suggestion. I know awhile back I donation to a Marine who had been at Rifles Only and a company had started a fund to help him compete. Those are also definitely something we want to consider.

Hello! Check out the ' Fallen and Wounded Soldier Fund'. They give about 95% to the soldiers. I belong to the Willow Run Tea Party Caucas in Ypsilanti,MI and last fall we had a fund raiser with Sarah Palin and raised over $10,000 for that cause. We thought they did the best at helping the soldiers in need. Most of the workers are volunteers and only use money on necessities. This is a very good cause. BILL

This is the "Snipers Hide," so why not help our Snipers... The Army Fallen Sniper Fund (http://www.armysniper.org/fallen-sniper-fund/) helps out families of wounded, injured or killed snipers. Then there's Operation Assist (through the USMC Scout Sniper Association) to get comfort items to deployed Marine Snipers. (http://www.usmcscoutsniper.org/assist.htm)

Other good ones are Special Operations Warrior Foundation (http://www.specialops.org/) and the Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/).

So, dusting off this thread after nine months or so, how about setting up some sort of "Legacy Giving" plan here on the Hide?

We just had the SH community come together nicley to raise $10K+ in a raffle for ScottyD on here, who lost his home in the 9/13 1,000-Year Flood here in Colorado.

So, the "Legacy" fund for SH members who are in need would not about setting up a "foundation" with salaried employees and other overhead - this would be one difference between this and the WWF, as I see it. I envision it as like an additional investment or estate planning assest allocation option, with the capital available maybe as a raffle prize. In no way do I envision some sort of bureaucracy, deciding on who gets what, and when. Sure, jackoffs could falsify their need, but I am not worried about those insects at this point.

I am talking about a legal, estate planning vehicle for those on here who may have $100K+++ of rifles and optics, no kids, no heirs whom they like, etc., and are thinking how to make a positive contribution to society, or some community, like somebody in need on the Hide, when they lay finally down for their dirt nap....

Whatcha think?

I like where you're going with this. I would suggest pairing these people up while alive, with a warrior so that they can enjoy the sport and make a friend.
