I have been looking at brakes for awhile and found a few I really like. My question is about the thread size. I have a #7 Bartlein that is .930 at the muzzle. My question is a 5/8 24 thread big enough or should I look at something with a 3/4 24-28. Would the the bigger thread size make a better crown or would the 5/8 be fine. I'm really leaning towards the APA little Jimmy and it is only offered in the 5/8 24. Out of the 3/4 thread brakes I have looked at I kinda like the Holland or the Badger FTE but not really digging the clamp on version of the Badger due to I may want to take it off and run a thread protector and it doesn't look like it will look quiet right without the brake. Hopefully you guys can help me out on this.

Thanks. Doug

So I did a little more digging and it looks a 5/8 24 will work fine on a muzzle of .930. I just wonder if a 3/4 24 wouldn't be a little better for the barrel because of less h have to take off. Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Doug

5/8" X 24 TPI is what you want. I have threaded and installed several of them. Any brake can be made to fit perfectly and clocked.

How much does that barrel weigh? I have a bull barrel on my 10/22 custom and it's stupid heavy. Anyway, if you don't want to pay to have it cut, that size is very common among the 10/22 bulls. My point is you can buy a "pin on" brake. I bought one that sleeved perfectly on to my .930 barrel, and have been very happy with it. Seems like I paid under $50 for it, and the set screw was underneath. Anyway, just a thought. If you do thread the muzzle, remember that brakes are not allowed in official "F" competition. You can however get a threaded protector and you're good to go. If you want a pic of my 10/22 brake just let me know and I'll post a pic.
