I'm loading for the first 300 yard match of the year. I have a jug of 4895 and a bunch of 69 Sierras. I figured they'd be good for 2-300 and save my 75&80's for 3-600 yards. My question is, before the days of Varget was 4895 a common powder for AR service rifle?Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I believe win 748 was a popular military powder for the 223. I've read cfe 223 was a semi spin off of that powder.

Either of the 4895's are still some of the most accurate powders out there for .223 but not necessilarily the fastest.

4895 is excellent and is my go to powder. Just be aware that IMR4895 is temperature sensitive so pressure will increase in hot weather. Is why I use H4895 (is temperature insensitive).
