New guy from CO

Welcome BrassBadger, you've found yourself an addictive new site, lots to see and learn here....sorry about your states recent legislation, its a real bummer. My brother lives in Denver and I have a feeling he's gonna be sending me some of his guns.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I'm from Fort Collins, and yeah the new legislation is a bummer. I'm sure it will be remembered come election time!
I'm just getting into the long range world, found a Savage Hog Hunter in .308 to use as my build platform. Anybody have any helpful insight for me pertaining to this rifle?

Welcome aboard!

And you are right. Our new gun laws WILL be remembered come election time!!

As far as your build goes. I tried building on savage platforms years ago. They shot well,no complaints. Only reason I went with Remington is, it's easier to find used stocks, bases, triggers etc for that platform.

Welcome! Be careful here....the concentrated enthusiasm here will quickly vaporize your evenings and quickly expand your wishlist of things to try and do!
your Savage will be a great rifle-Don't worry about all the trick gadgetry available as much as getting out and shooting meaningfully. If I would have spent more time shooting and less time worrying about which reticule ( etc. etc. ad nauseum) I would be far ahead of where I am.
There seem to be a lot of N Colorado shooters on this board, and I'm sure you will run into many good people as I have here!

Welcome. Lots of dedicated shooters out in Colorado. Link up with them and learn.

In light of recent events in CO, maybe Brass Wolverine would be more appropriate...

Glad to hear there are a bunch of Colorado people here, I'd love to know where other people are shooting in Northern Colorado.

I played with the idea of an SPS, but the Savage 110 sitting in a McMillan stock is what sparked my interest in long range shooting a year ago. So when I found out I could build it...well here I am! 20 moa rail, LaRue rings, and deciding on glass are next on the list. I do plan on seeing how well I can master the iron sights in the meantime!

The challenge of ringing steel at 1000m plus...consistently, and the algorithms that go with it are what sealed the deal. I'll admit I'm a ballistics geek in the making.

Ha! Yes wolverine would be more appropriate under the current climate.
