Does anybody use Millett's TRS-1 4-16x50? What are your likes/dislikes about the scope? I am new to Long Range Shooting and am thinking about purchasing it. Would this be a good scope to start with?

Re: Millett TRS-1 4-16x50

I had one a short time ago I sold on a M40A3. Very heavy and strong. I woud give it a 10/10 for durability. Glass is good but not great. I had a little problem reading mirage even in AZ if that tells you anything. But for the price "atleast in my opinion" are a solid deal.

I would say it's an excellent starter scope for sure. Hoped that was what you wanted to hear.

Re: Millett TRS-1 4-16x50

Thanks Lonewolf.

How many MOA did your scope have? I read 65 on the spec. sheet but I have also read 100 from other reviews on this scope.

Re: Millett TRS-1 4-16x50

I don't remember for sure; but if it says 65 you can problably count in it being that. I do remember there being 8 clicks per MOA which I didn't like to much. I don't like having to turn something that much to make an adjustment. That was one downfall I forgot to mention to you. When I get another scope I am going to look for someting in .25 moa adjustments.

Pros- super strong and durable, fairly good glass, night reticle
Cons- not good enuff for good mirage reads, moa adjustment's

And I will agree with Jester kinda. For me if I recall right it wasn't so much in my 12+ power, but more in the 600+ distances. I will say on the M40A3 I had no problem slapping a homeade 15x15" steel plate at 1050.

I still think it's a great starter scope. It's a tank if anything and it's going to last you a long time.

You can view a picture of this scope on a M14 in my post under "JAE-100 G2 Pic's" in the rifle section if I remember right. Otherwise search it

Hope this helps brother.

i like mine. first moa was doa. i sent it back and requested a mil/mil and they sent it to me. at the time it was one of the few scopes with everything it offers in its price range. some said they were crap after theirs didnt do this or that, but with the warranty they offer, why they didnt get an exchange i dont know. my mil/mil is 25 mils of elevation. your moa should be 65-100 ish if i recall. and this scope comes in 1/8 moa, 1/4 moa and 0.1 mil so keep an eye on the knobs

I had one with the .25 adjustments.
The glass on mine was quite clear all the way up to 16, actually, I was pleasantly surprised. The adjustments were repeatable, but once you started cranking the thing up, when you began to reach the end of the adjustment range, the elevation knob was all cockeyed.
I gave it to my son, it is still working just fine, for 300 bones, it is a pretty good deal.

HOWEVER, for 300 bones, the midwayusa exclusive weaver tactical 3-10x is a MUCH better scope.
No, it doesn't have illumination and the magnification isn't nearly as high, but it is leaps and bounds above the millet in quality (made Japan vs China).

my friend just got this very same scope last month for his savage .308 bolt action rifle and for the money it is hard to beat.... It is very long! he simply couldn't afford a vortex ffp 4-16, so we figured we would give it a try with the millett. He let me try the new scope/rifle set up and I was impressed for $300 dollars. Took about 5 shots using the new scope and I was really impressed. Glass was clear all the way up to 16x.... as in damn near as clear as my vortex $900 scope. If money is an issue, this is one of the best bang for your bucks on the market hands down IMO. I would have no problems purchasing one and I think it has life time warranty also. Got the .25 moa version. Just make sure you read the description mil or moa versions before you purchase,,,, which ever you want.

I have one on a .22 trainer. It tracks well and returns to zero well.

I may be remembering this wrong, but I think the reticle is calibrated at 10X, not 14. If you shoot mostly at max power and use the reticle for ind holds, you'll have to do some math o get it right.

Otherwise, a great scope.
